spooky tree door hanging

I am so glad I have been seeing a lot of Halloween goodies on other blogs so I don't have to feel so self-conscious posting this. :)

I love Fall and Halloween so I have had this project on the brain for a few weeks and finally finished it this last weekend. It won't go on my door until October but I couldn't wait to make it!

As you can tell I seem to really like framed door hangings. Like this one

and this one

And now...my Halloween framed door hanging. A spooky black tree of twigs.

It was fun scouting out branches with my boys and it came together easily in an afternoon.

1. Find an empty, glassless, backless frame. They are pretty common at garage sales and are cheap cheap. I got mine for 25 cents.

 2. Go on a walk and find some dead branches.

3. Cut the branches into pieces and play around with them until you can make a spooky tree. I used a small Leather man saw thingy. No big equipment needed for this project.

4. Paint everything black. {I ended up adding two more branches to this mix}

5. Place them in your frame so you can plan how to glue it in.

6. Then coming from behind the frame, glue the branches in with hot glue. Trying to hide the glue as much as possible, glue them to the frame and together with dots of glue so it holds firmly.

7. Staple or glue on a black ribbon to hang it from.

Done! A different kind of Halloween "wreath." You could add embellishments or little things to hang from the "tree." I like it plain though.

I think it will look even better next to dried cornstalks from our garden and large orange pumpkins. Can't wait!

I posted this project here:

Unfortunately my door is a darker blue-gray and this wouldn't show up well at all. Drats. It's so much more elegant than my usual wreath:

Ooh! If you had a dark colored door, you could paint it all white! I love how cheap, easy, and elegant this looks! Thanks for the great idea!
