Funny Valentine

My son Owen loves silly bands. I don't know what it is about those things, but they sure are popular. So I came up with this Valentine idea that I knew would be perfect for him, his love of silly bands, and his silly personality.

We used my Lego box template and then shrunk it down {and then improved it for you guys after I started assembling his...you'll see later}.

Added a joke to the top flap and inside flap...

And put in some Laffy Taffy, and a {Walmart knock-off} silly band.

Inside it says To: My Funny Valentine...which is perfect for classroom Valentines so he can just pass them out quickly to everyone.

 So fun and cheesy.

And colorful. We used our card stock leftover from Owen's Lego Birthday Party and some inspiration from this 80's heart fabric from my Mom. 

Then we stuck some hearts on the outside for good measure.

I admit. I had to do a lot of the box cutting, folding and gluing but I let Owen do all the filling and deciding which kind of candy and silly band went in what. He loved it.

You know what I love? His little cowlick. He likes to play with his hair. So cute.

 I had a Valentine project for Reid but naturally he was much more interested in what his brother was doing.

And eating the candy corn we put in his Valentines. The very cute idea and free printable is found at MADE here.

He made sure to include his Lightening McQueen in the fun. This picture creeps me out. Those new holographic eyes toy makers put on toys are cool but here they make him look like he's possessed.

I ended up doing a lot of Reid's project for him as well. He was helping to fill them up but then, as most 2 year-olds do, decided he didn't want to share any more of his candy with his friends and started shoveling it in his mouth. So he got banned from helping. I wanted him to still feel like it was his project so we decorated the hearts with stickers later which he really enjoyed.

 Much easier to close and open.

 The joke is printed on the inside flap but you still have to cut and paste the top joke onto the outside.

And I added the To and From in the box template this time as well. Pretty easy. A tip: it will save you time if you glue the top joke on and sign the From: line before assembling the box.
