Foam Board Pictures and Puzzles

Hello! Today is day two of my Elmer's Giveaway project ideas.

Elmer's is giving a kit of some of goodies to one of my readers at the end of this week.

Comments left here will not count.

For today, I used some of my images from my I Spy books to make some puzzles for my boys.

This idea comes from a guide of 101 foam board uses that Elmer's has put together... found here.

I printed up some color images on high end copy paper at my local print shop
{just ask for the paper they like to print pictures on...but not photo paper}.
I find that a print shop can print a better quality picture than my home printer.
I also personally recommend copy paper prints over photo paper prints when mounting to foam board.

I used the Elmer's extra strength glue stick to glue my image onto a piece of foam board.

I then trimmed all the rough and uneven sides off.

I am not very good at wielding an exact-o knife when it comes to something as thick as foam board.

So my puzzle pieces ended up getting cut like this.

Just straight cuts.

I did some triangular and square notches with this one.
I first tried rounded cuts but had to just cut off what I messed up. :)
Meh...a square puzzle will still be fun.

I added a layer of mod podge to the pieces after they were cut, to protect the image and to seal it more securely to the foam board.

My second project from the guide today,
is simply mounting an image to foam board for display.

I took this cute picture of my boys laughing together and followed the same steps as with the puzzle. But instead of cutting it up, I just mod podged it and propped it up on their book shelf.

They share a room so I thought it was fitting to have a picture of them together in their room. I like that it was inexpensive and easy to put together, so they can love it and hold it without smudging it up. If they break it, I won't sweat it as much. ;)

I hope you are having a lovely November day.
I'll be back tomorrow with some Christmas projects using foam board.

See you then!

What a cute idea! I love the photo of your boys on foam. Easy and no huge drama if it gets broken or damaged. You are a genius!

If you get some light styrofoam you can mount it on the back of the picture and then hang it on your wall? That's something I've been meaning to do someday. Love your creative ideas.
