My kids think I'm pretty strict when it comes to food...which I know I'm not, or at least I think I'm not. But what kid doesn't think that about their own parents, right?
I just don't buy fruit snacks or fun drinks for them very often. Part of it is a budget issue, but mostly it's a nutrition issue. I feel like my kids get candy and junk food often enough for rewards, at the bank, the doctor, etc., that I don't feel like I need to feed their hyper, bouncing off the walls energy with even more dyed, sugary treats and drinks...just because.
When stocking up for some car treats for a recent road trip (I buy fun drinks for stuff like that and special occasions) I found Super V Capri Suns. I was stoked. Real fruit juice with a combined serving of fruits/vegetables in one pouch? I stocked up.
My kids think Capri Suns are a treat, but I know better. It's win-win.
So, when BlogHer invited me to write a review for Kraft Capri Sun Super V , it seemed like a no-brainer. I was already using it and loving it.
They sent me a complimentary pack of Fruit Punch.
When I saw the "Fruit Punch" label, I hesitated.
We had been enjoying the berry and apple flavors already, but I purposely try to stay away from Fruit Punch when I can. I can't help but associate fruit punch with red sugar water.
I didn't want to be a party pooper so we gave it go anyway, and I was honestly, pleasantly surprised.
There were no red dyes (big plus for me), and it still had the promise of a combined serving of fruits/vegetables per pouch. Plus, my kids LOVE fruit punch, probably because I'm kind of against it. So it makes me feel like a good mom to be able to give them what they want while not sacrificing what I know is best for them.
I allowed a pouch here and there with lunch, or dinner, or even for snack time. It was reassuring knowing that each pouch was going toward their daily intake of fruits and vegetables. It's definitely not a replacement for all the fruits and vegetables in their diet. But if they are going to have a "fun" juice drink, why not ensure that it's good for them too?

They sound yummy! But honestly? I don't have to sneak 'em. Grace, our four-year-old's favorite foods are salad and crunchy veggies and grapes. And baby sister Nicole would live off grapes if we'd let her. She also loves corn and peas and cucumbers. I'm the Aunt who takes care of them while my brother and sister-in-law work. Since my SIL hates most vegetables, I've made it something of a mission to get the kids to like 'em. I'm veerrry picky about what I feed them and try and stick to healthy foods and snacks. Candy and goodies are okay occasionally, but they don't get a steady diet of 'em!
I'm pretty good about incorporating fruit- breakfast, snacks, after dinner treat. Veggies, I struggle. I tried green smoothies, incorporating them into lunch via mac and cheese or quesedilla. Sometimes If the kids are wanting to snack close to dinner time I cut up some veggies and give them dip. The dip gets 'em every time.
Awesome! We usually go for the Fruit/veggie juice in our house to sneak in veggies. But the kids have really gotten into lately is putting broccoli in their mac n' cheese. It's one of the few veggies they'll eat. :)
Anything on a shish-kabob stick or in a smoothie!
We've done other brands of fruit/veggie juice, but hadn't seen the capri sun yet!
My kids have just always eaten veggies. I do like to add spinach to spaghetti, rice, and just about everything.

Veggies blended into smoothies is awesome (spinach, broccoli, beets) and goes a long way nutrition wise.
Orange baby food spread onto bread before making grilled cheese sandwiches. :)
Like a few other commenters, we don't sneak veges & fruit.
We have a CSA where the kids pick (and eat) their own food and meet the (very cool) farmers, we have our own backyard garden and we limit their food choices. The fresher the food, the tastier the meal, getting them to help in the kitchen so they have invested themselves in a dish.
That's what our family does to ensure good health and happy tummies.
Luckily my daughter still likes her fruits and veggies, but when she's having an off day, I find sprinkling a little bit of shredded cheese on top (veggies) or putting them in yogurt (fruit) helps get them down!
It's really neat that companies we know from childhood are starting to come out with products that are health conscious ... everyone loves the nostalgia of capri sun& now I can enjoy that, give my kids an extra special treat, & also feel like i'm not compromising their health. so fun!
I usually try to make fun smoothies with fruits and greens and my kids love them! Or I'll try to make fun muffins with carrots or zucchini.
I don't have any kiddos who don't eat fruits and veggies yet, but I do have a husband who isn't much of a nutritious foods eater! I just try to cute everything up really small so that hopefully he won't notice how much of a certain food is actually in there.
Those would be perfect for my son. I'd probably freeze the juice into popsicles. Thanks for filling me in.

I don't have any children yet, but when it comes to watching the nieces and nephews, we try and "sneak" fruits and veggies into things that they'll actually eat. Smoothies are a great way!

I have picky little eaters, so I try to dice up veggies and sneak them into things like pasta sauces, quiches, etc. The best sneaky veggie dinner? They love spinach ravioli, the kind you buy at Costco! So easy and good, they don't even realize they're eating the ultimate yucky vegetable :)
I would love to win this! Honestly, my kids love fruits and vegetables. My youngest is a little "fruit bat" and will choose fruit over dessert almost every time. Weird, but good though.

I make sure there is always good healthy cut up fruit and veggies in the fridge so it is always accessible. Having dip for veggies always helps too!

Wow, those sound like a good alternative to V8's line of fruit and veggie blends. My son loves green beans and carrots, but I've been getting sneaky with the zuccini bread this summer. He loves it. He won't eat hardly any fruits, unless they are in the form of a sauce. So I add different fruits to his apple sauce.
My kids love smoothies. We bought a Bullet blender and the kids love to watch to the things get blended. I have thrown in some spinich and other green leaf things with out them even noticing them in there. I have no problem with the fruits but getting them to eat veggies is another story!
I believe in starting at the grocery store-- let the kids pick out some fun new vegetables for the family. That way they have some ownership in dinner.

I let Lucas pick at least one vegetable and fruit while at the store and he's usually more willing to eat it. But sneaking it in in a smoothie works well too!

My little guy shocks me by how readily he'll eat fruits and veggies, even ones I shy away from. I do try to make sure I put fruits in any baked goods I make, so I can make sure he gets something healthy with his sweets.
My boys would definitely love the new Capri Suns. They are not picky eaters at all and love healthy food so there's no need for sneakiness around here. Unfortunately I am the picky eater of the house which the boys find hysterical.
This is awesome! I love that Capri Sun does this now, especially in the days of fastfood Everything it's nice to know that we can give kids healthier, but still tasty, options.
We try to teach our little ones about how the healthy foods we eat fuel their bodies and they seem to love that approach.
Thankfully my kids love fruit and are also usually good about eating most veggies, but when I want to add more I do smoothies.

I generally try to mix fruits and veggies in with something we are already eating. My kids love to eat fruits but put up a fight eating veggies.
I'm not big on packaged convenience foods, but drink puches sure come in handy!

My little one will eat anything if it's placed in mashed sweet potatoes! Legumes of all sorts, collard greens, kale, spinach, tomatoes, squash. I simply roast the potatoes and veggies desired with a little olive oil and garlic, mash with a little more olive oil, add some cracked pepper and colby jack cheese and he gobbles it up!
I will have to give these a try.
Lately we have been putting spinach and kale, along with fruit, into smoothies. You can't really tell and they taste great.
Green smoothies...spinach, banana, pb, flax, apples and whatever else we have laying around. Olive can't get enough of them
I have been known to put pureed pumpkin or squash into my spaghetti sauce. ;-)
I really like all the drink options with fruits and vegetables. Also having baby carrots, sliced cucumbers, or tomatoes on hand for snacks help.
So far I don't have to sneak veggies in my kids' foods... both girls love them and ask for them regularly. Feeding them to my husband is a different story... =)
My little girl loves fruit and cheese but doesn't like a lot of other healthy foods. One thing I do is sometimes purposely eat something myself that I know she should be eating and then she wants to "sneak" a bite from Mommy's plate! Because isn't what's on Mommy's plate always better?
I don't sneak fruits and veggies. I've served them to my kids from the time they were itty bitty and they eat them whether they like them or not :)
My kids are really good about eating their fruits and veggies. But, when I want to jam pack the goods in, I opt for a green smoothie. We all love them!

Really, I don't have to sneak healthy foods to my daughter. I keep the fridge stocked with fruits, veggies, and low fat string cheese and my daughter loves it. She gets excited when I buy sweet mini peppers! Also we've always made a point to keep unhealthy stuff like chips and cookies out of the house most of the time, though we do have them as a treat every once in a while.
I have to find ways to sneak food into my diet! I like the trend of using cauliflower to sub for other things. Pizza Crust, Mash potatoes... etc
I find that if I have some sort of dip I can get my kids to eat lots of fruits and veggies. Plus dried fruit, my kids think it is a fun snack.
I don't really sneak... my baby loves fruits and veggies! Lucky me!
We make Popsicles everyday out of spinach, kale, pineapple, and bannanas, kids are nuts for them and u live that they are eating some good leafy greens!

Smoothies are a great way to incorporate healthy fruits and veggies in a kid's diet!
No kiddos, yet, but when I used to nanny, I would add shredded carrot to pasta sauce. It sweetened it up and the kids got extra nutrients. Now I love subbing half the pasta with roasted cauliflower when I make mac and cheese.
I am lucky that I don't have to sneak fruits and veggies into my boys. I just have to make sure they are available and they do the rest!

Each week I let each child pick a veggie - sometimes it is the old standby of carrots or celery but sometimes they get adventurous and I get to learn what to do with a rutabaga. Letting them choose the new vegetable at least guarantees they will try it before declaring they don't like it.
I didn't used to have to sneak in fruits and veggies, but I do now. Popsicles, smoothies, and those pureed pre-made baby food in anything i bake. I also buy these Super V's quite often.

I love sneaking veggies into my kids' food - it feels like playing a clever trick where everybody wins. Lately I've been putting very finely chopped kale (we have loads growing in our garden) into everything I make them: quesadillas, scrambled eggs, pasta, muffins, zucchini bread... When chopped finely the kale cooks down nice and softly so they don't even notice it's there other than the tell-tale greenness.
Honestly, I don't have to sneak healthy food into our kids meals. They actually like them. For us, I think that a big part of it was starting them on a majorly plant based diets as infants so that was what they were used to and it's just normal. (not that they don't love crappy food too...)
i'm not a big fan of packages juices either, mainly because we avoid food dyes and i'm a tyrant about avoiding HFCS. I'll have to check these out.... My kids would LOVE juice pouches... LOL!!! Maybe I can splurge and buy some with a very hand Gift Card! WOOT WOOT!
The trick in our house is to serve them often and fresh. The kids who are fussy about cooked veggies love them raw and they disappear often before I get any!

I read this tip somewhere and it has helped me. I out out raw veggies - carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes - while I'm preparing dinner so that the kids get the veggies first.

Those look yummy! I saw them at the store the other day and almost picked them up. Next I will definately will! We snack on fruits all day long, but veggies are harder. It helps that we have a garden because the kids are excited about eating what we've grown!
Fruit is no problem. And with veggies I haven't exactly started sneaking yet( my son is 21 months) but I do play to his likes. For example, zucchini is known as duck food:)

When I was a teacher, a nutritionist who spoke to us about healthy eating gave a good tip for picky eaters:Let the child pick 3 foods for that year that they didn't want to eat. Then don't ever force or fight about those foods when they are served. That child can pass on them, but everything else they have to try. However, at the next year, they have to create a new list.
I prefer not to serve juice at home, but I think the Capri Suns are a great option for lunches on the go. Great review. Did you know that you can use capri-sun packages as envelopes? So your kid can have a healthy drink and then save the environment by upcycling the wrapper!

I provide many of the fruits and veggies that they will eat, chopped up along with a dip or topping that they love, like apples & peanut butter, carrots & ranch dip, broccoli & melted cheese. They love these combos.

I throw veggies in the food processor and use them to thicken sauces or create sauces for pasta, in with potatoes, etc. Hide them if they won't eat them in normal forms even if you have to be tricky about it! :)
I shred veggies and put them in everything!! My husband rolls his eyes... :)

My son loves the pureed fruit packs. We go through at least 3 a day. We also try to have a green smoothie every morning.
My kids love fruits and veggies. In summer we eat a lot of locally garden grown so that helps in their love of them. When it's really hot we'll eat "frozen" fruits and veggies. They're a cool refreshing treat that way!
My son is fairly good these days about his fruits and veggies. However, he loves Capri Suns so it helps get some extras in there now and again, also he loves chocolate so this time of year I make chocolate zucchini bread - not the healthiest I know, but I figure with a child as picky as mine every little bit helps.
My son is too smart for me to sneak any veggies in...unless it's in a drink, then he doesn't even notice.

My only little one just turned 6 months old (she's just a little older than Natalie - a lot fatter and less mobile though!), so we just just started solid foods. I'm hoping by only offering healthy fruits and veggies at the beginning, she'll learn to love them for a lifetime!

I'm glad I'm not the only mother that feels that way about sugary foods. I start my kids off eating only healthy food so they're pretty good eaters, but they do love a healthy dip like humus or yogurt with their fruits & veggies!
We can't sneak. He's got eagle eyes (and palate). The best I can do is find veggies & fruit he'll actually eat and then meet his requirements to remove all skin.

My kids love eating carrots and dip, cucumbers and tomatoes with mozarella cheese, celery and peanut butter.
For my kiddos, the best way to get them to eat more healthfully is to involve them in the process of creating the food. I constantly find them plucking things to snack on from our little raised bed garden. And now that it is the end of summer, they are helping me put up some of the bounty - 12 pints of spaghetti sauce over the weekend and both the 9 year old and the 3 year old loved it.
I think I'll put these in my husband's lunch box.
My husband makes a delicious veggie pasta sauce using onions, carrots, broccoli, and anything else on hand. My granddaughter loves it!

Being sneaky never works for me! My kids somehow always know if I try to slip something past them. Instead we find fun ways to eat what they do enjoy. Crisp fresh veggies like peppers, celery and carrots with peanut butter or a light ranch dip are very popular. So are all kinds of fruits. Cheese bites go well with both!

Smoothies are my favorite way to sneak goodies into their diet - and I love using fruit/vegetable juice combos in my smoothies, to get them thin enough to blend well.
I don't have kids, but my parents used to make me think fruit was "dessert" - I've loved it ever since :) They let me eat all I wanted of the veggies I liked, and occasionally added a new one for me to try. They just accepted there were certain veggies I didn't like and they didn't force me to eat them - I still got plenty of the tasty veggies I DID like.

Luckily my daughter tries everything out there and she likes lots of different kinds of fruits and veggies. A Super V goes in her lunchbox for school, as well as a small apple, a bunch of grapes, or some baby carrots.
One of the best ways I've found to pack lots of veggies into one meal is soup.
