Color Your Summer PINK with Caila Made

June 28, 2013 · Delia 15 Comments

It’s a good day because Caila from Caila Made is here today!

This sewing maven, is also a free-lance writer, and beautiful mom of three adorable littles. She just wrapped up an epic-ally (made that word up :))  fun pattern review series called Best of Summer which also has a sister series: Best of Fall. She has a super cute free clutch pattern HERE that I just used and looove and a free summer shorts pattern HERE for boys and girls! Her pictures are awesome. Her writing is witty and so fun to read. She is adorable. She just won Sew-vivor 2013!…I could go on and on…

I think you’re going to love her (if you don’t already!)
Here’s Caila!

Hello all you lovely Delia Creates readers! I’m so honored to be a part of Color Your Summer this time around. If you’ve visited my blog before you know that I’m a fan of SUMMER and COLOR, and I usually get plenty of both living in Southern California! I’m so thankful to be celebrating both these lovely things with YOU today.
I knew right away I would choose pink for CYS, because my daughter never gets enough. She’s a pink fan, if you can’t tell already! The idea for ombre flying geese (those triangles) as side panels for a dress has been floating around in my head for awhile. You’ve probably noticed that triangles are all the rage these days, and I love seeing traditional quilt blocks reborn in modern designs. These flying geese on a white dress are such a fun statement!

Girlie meets modern. That’s my girl in a nutshell, so she fits this dress and it fits her.

Of course, although I picked pink for this post, I couldn’t resist the urge to throw some yellow in the mix. I like little yellow surprises.

The main fabric comes from the Out to Sea  line by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller, and is some of the softest cotton I’ve ever sewn with. The flying geese blocks were made with Kona Cotton Solids and a yellow print from Jo-Anne’s that I found in my scrap pile.

The top of the dress is shirred with elastic thread in the bobbin (purchased at Jo-Ann’s), and I’ll point you to a whole tutorial for that in a moment.
I love eyelet lace for straps. I can’t ever seam to get enough.
And don’t you just love those ombre triangles against the white?
Want to make one too? For the full dress tutorial see Caila’s blog by clicking HERE.

Thank you so much for having me, Delia! And thank YOU for reading and visiting CailaMade. You can find more inspiration on my tutorials or patterns pages, and get daily updates on my Facebook page! Hope to see you all again soon!

See? Don’t you just love her? 🙂
Those flying geese are STUNNING. I have not really dabbled into quilting all the much, but this dress is motivating me to fix that. I LOVE this dress! Thanks Caila!
