wrapped in love

April 24, 2012 · Delia 31 Comments

…Is how your words have made me feel. Thank you, thank you. It’s meant more than you know.

Sigh :)…
but onto more cheerful things.

Did you catch that post from MADE about cotton gauze blankets?

You know…those pricey muslin baby blankets?

Well, thanks to Dana’s tutorial, I stopped by Joann and picked up the material to make my own for $4-5!…using a coupon of course.

I added a small knit heart to one corner. So that when I swaddle Natalie up…

She looks like this.

The light, airy material is just perfect for the warmer temps we have been enjoying lately. I might just have to make more once summer rolls around.

I tried to coax a smile out of Natalie for these pictures, but instead she let me know she was ready for a nap.

You and me both honey. 🙂 Now if we could just convince Reid…

Update: After using this blanket a while I found that it is not quite as soft as the expensive gauze you can order online BUT it does soften up more with each wash. I think it’s a great, light blanket perfect for warm weather.

Beautiful! I'm trying to sew 3 of mine together to make the thicker version of the muslin to emulate the even more expensive version, but oy, this fabric is just hard to deal with!

I remember that exhausted feeling. I would lay down on the couch next to my two year old while she watched something and take a 5 minute nap, and be grateful for whatever I could get. Sweet blanket, sweet baby.

    Hi Delia,

Love your blog; I have to admit I've been lurking for a few months now (bad me). Your projects and your family are just beautiful. The Freshly Picked apple hats are on my fall list for my babes – love, love, love! I've been wanting to make some of these blankets for my twins (5mo, girls). Of course, it's been freezing here, so that's not much incentive! Happy

Cotton bubble gauze is what your looking for. It’s actually even softer than the pricy blankets! If you google it dharma trading company has it the cheapest. 🙂
