Cetaphil Comfort & $100 Giveaway

Like mother, like daughter.

My poor daughter, and actually my sons as well, have inherited my dry-prone skin.

Yep. We're a sensitive bunch.

In the winter, we have to work a little harder to keep the dry patches at bay. When my children are very young they also have eczema.

It usually gets the driest at the back of their knees, at the bend of their arms, and behind their ears, but we've been pretty lucky with this girl so far. We spend a lot of time trying to stay on top of her skin care so things don't get worse.

We've had to forgo the nice-smelling detergents and fabric softeners for the sake of our children's tender skin. My husband has been a good sport and patiently borne all the static-y clothes that smell like nothing. :) Luckily, they grow out of the eczema eventually. Once all of them get at old as Owen is right now, we should be in the clear to try something scented.

I also like that it's acceptable for girls to wear leggings everywhere. Natalie practically lives in soft cotton leggings and body suits 85% of the time.

Even after all that, between messy meal times, drool-y play time, teething and rubbing her face on everything this little one's face can get pretty raw.

So for her and me, I use fragrance-free moisturizers like Cetaphil brand to help tame the dryness, and Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser that cleans but doesn't irritate.

I especially like the Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream in the winter. It's a thicker cream but not too heavy to use on my face. Between the biting cold air outside, and the dry warm air inside, my skin really takes a beating. This cream is super soothing and comforting for that.

I give both products extra brownie points for being good for my skin as well as my children's skin.

When Cetaphil brand contacted me through BlogHer about doing a review, of course I agreed. It's a product I already use daily. Plus, they wanted to offer one lucky reader a $100 Visa gift card giveaway!

Now, who wouldn't like a little extra cash around the holidays?

Since, everyone can't win the $100, Cetaphil brand is offering all my readers a $3 off coupon! That's a pretty great coupon.

Click here to save up to $3.

We are also plagued by dry skin in our family. My husband and son especially suffer from it. After bathtime, we slather my son up in lotion like a little greased pig!!! It helps trap the moisture from the bath in his skin.

My boys and I also have very sensitive and dry skin. I have also nixed the scented detergents and fabric softeners. I make my own detergent with soulemama's tutorial and use vinegar in the fabric softener slot. I make my own body wash for the kids too, a grated bar of Tom's unscented soap, a little glycerin and distilled water. I would love to have something that I can buy (especially with baby #3 on the way, hard to find time for all the soap making!) so I printed the coupons to give cetaphil a try! Oh, and we also try to keep the showers to every other day.
thanks!

Our family has the same issues. I use auqaphor usually in the winter but have also bought cetaphil. I have severe allergies and unfortunately two of my three have inherited them from me. My poor son's arms are always full of ezcema spots because he's a teen and a boy and doesn't think he needs lotion!

coconut oil and it smells good without being perfumy

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! I use a face lotion for sensitive skin as well as a body lotion for my hands, legs, elbows, etc. I've already started breaking open vitamin E capsules and smothering them on my lips.

Alexa said...

I dry out as well --I get a scaley/ peeling nose...HATE IT -- and I slather myself in Nivea usually. But I didn't know that cetaphil made a heavy moisturizer. I'm going to try it. I've been using their cleanser for ages.

Sharon said...

We have a fun phrase at our house: an ocean of lotion. We also try to drink lots of water, since sometimes the dry skin is from being dehydrated.

Diana said...

We have very dry skin at our house too, so we do lots of moisturizing and I use Vasaline on really dry patches at night, like under eyes and rough heels.

Heidi V said...

My second son has dry skin/eczema issues (and shared them with me) so we are always looking for products to help with that. Hydrocortizone Cream works when it gets really bad.

Julie O. said...

for the winter i use the cetaphil restoraderm lotion for my little one. its the only thing that seems to work

Gina said...

I use 2 different lotions in the wintertime for my face. I let the first one absorb right after I get out of the shower and then do another layer of the second one after. It's a pain. I love Cetaphil and had no idea they had a heavier moisturizer! I'll have to try it!

the phillips said...

I too am plagued with dry skin. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything that has helped get it under control. Thanks for the great post about Cetaphil. I'm anxious to give it a try.

hollymade said...

When my son was a baby he suffered from seriously chapped skin on his face. We had to keep it moisturized almost constantly to keep it from getting too chapped. We combined that with blankets to shield his skin when we were out in the frigid air, and a humidifier in his room. Fragrance and dye free detergents and dryer sheets are a must in our house too, but for our skin care we can get by with just a good dose of lotion every day, and we all stay pretty comfy.

~Michelle~ said...

My hubby has Ichthyosis, so he actually goes beyond Cetaphil for treating that (and it gets worse in the dry winter), but I find that I have to slap on some additional lotion in the winter.

AmandaLane said...

We're Cetaphil user here also! My son gets dry, red patches on his cheeks I put some Cetaphil on before bed and it's gone by the next morning. My daughter is a daily user. I love that I can buy it in bulk at Costco!

Michele said...

We are also faithful users of Cetaphil! My husband and our daughters all have eczema. So I can also totally relate to the static clothes and non-scented clothes :)

Marsh Mayhem said...

We love Cetaphil! My boys both have eczema, my daughter may be developing it, and my husband deals with it as well. I also keep bottles, tubes, and the like full of lotion within arm's reach all winter long!

Elaine said...

I switch to a creamy face wash. My other products are very moisturizing anyway, plus I live in California, so the wind is really the only factor contributing to dryness.

Charity said...

I'm not much of a lotion person... but when we get dry skin I usually use plain almond, coconut, or jojoba oil. The jojoba oil is the least greasy. =)
Natalie is SO cute! I love these pictures of her. =)

Bethany said...

I have never used the cream, I have the opposite problem :( But the cetaphil daily face moisturizer is awesome, I use it every day. It's moisturizing but not greasy!

Ashley said...

Ahh! Winter time. As a special moisture treat I take a bath with olive oil, scrub lightly with a pumice stone and...use Cetaphil moisturizing cream! No joke. I love that stuff. Keeps the -2 degree winter environments at bay!

LisaM said...

I also moisturize and humidify too. If necessary this year I might change to a cream (instead of a moisturizer) for my facial routine. We'll see.

Cute pictures, even with dry skin. Thanks for the giveaway!

Kelly said...

My son and I both suffer from dry skin. Unfortunately my hands take the brunt of it. This makes life extremely difficult when changing diapers, washing faces, etc. However soaking my hands in water for twenty minutes then applying Vaseline and cotton gloves seems to do the trick! Time consuming, but soothing!

crazyestonian said...

Thankfully my daughter did not inherit my allergies and sensitivities. So all she gets is a bit of Weleda calendula cream when it is really cold. But I myself have found one facial cream by Aveda that does not irritate my skin. And they also have hand-relief cream that I can tolerate. My pitfall is that almost everything for sensitive skin contains aloe vera or aloe barbadensis - the biggest offenders for my skin. Oh, and pure olive oil soap is divine!

LeeAnne said...

We're lucky enough not to get eczema (knock on wood), but we definitely get dry skin around here! I've never actually tried Cetaphil before, but I may give it a try since we're running low on what we already have and I've got coupons now :)

Allison C said...

I lotion up right after the shower and then watch my hands over the day as I wash them so often. When it is really dry out I have to lotion my hands multiple times a day so they don't crack. I also use a humidifier at night.

For my little guy I have been using Aveeno, but I may try cetaphil now! Had no idea it was so cool. I just use my regular Aveeno face lotion. Luckily I don't have too dry of skin. My hands get pretty dry from always washing them or washing baby bottles by hand! Then I just use good old Vaseline!

Bratling said...

I'm allergic to a lot of the chemicals in a large section of lotions. That said, I have a few I stick with and use often--Fruit of the Earth, for one, and Eucerin. Because of my lymnphedema, I really have to stay on top of it, because the skin on my legs can easily crack open.

Robin said...

I also have extremely dry skin, especially on my face! I get dry patches. I will have to try the Cetaphil to see if it will clear it up! Right now I am using vasaline at night and a Mary Kay moisturizer during the day but it isn't working like I would like.

Lily said...

I have combination skin (oily t-zone) so I always wash my face twice a day no matter the weather. With winter, my lips and nose get especially dry and chapped so I make sure I have lip balm and lotion on hand.

Maggie said...

I get rough, dry patches of skin, especially on my face (nooooo!). So does my 4-yr old. I'll have to try the Cetaphil Mousturizing Cream, because so far I don't HAVE a system to keep the dry splotches away.

My children are eczema sufferers, as well! I was hoping Elise might be fine but it's already cropped up on her little belly and back. I haven't tried Cetaphil, but I suppose I should! I have to use All Free and Clear detergent, but I can get away with Bounce dryer sheets. No other brands, learned that one the hard way. We also use Aquaphor but I really hate the price tag on that one!

Natalie's excema gets so bad in the winter, we have to put it on twice a day, religiously, or she's scratching and can't concentrate on anything. Our dermatologist reccomended the cetaphil bar soap too. We have found the wisdom in 100 cotton at night, and ALL free and clear detergent.

It also works great on hands and on legs!

I have spent years trying to find a product that wouldn't dry out or irritate my skin. My years as a teen were difficult having to lube on Vaseline every chance I got, I had the shiniest face in the school. I don't even try anything on my body, i broke out to everything. Luckily only my face (the area people stare at) was the only area
that seemed super dehydrated. Recently I had my first baby and the one thing I was most worried about was his skin. I was right, his face was completely dry, flaky, irritated, red and bumpy just only two weeks after he was born. I started to use Vaseline on him but it didn't seem to do anything. Then I came across Cetaphil, and only after a day of use his face had completely cleared! Cetaphil is and will be the only product I use on son! Plus, my face loves Cetaphil! I figured if it worked for my son why wouldn't it work on me. I'm super excited for this product, it gets an A+ from me! (Excited to try the gental wash on my son and the acne face wash for me!!). Thanks Cetaphil!

I moisturize twice a day-once in the morning and once before bed. It keeps my skin soft during the harsh winter months. I also use a cream cleanser!

I know I should not take such long and hot showers in the winter, but I just can't help myself so I make sure to use moisturizing soaps and body washes and then I slather on moisturizer right after I get out of the shower

Alycia said...

I try to slather myself in lotion as often as possible - I love long, hot, showers, but they're terrible for your skin!

My winter skin care strategy is to moisturize my skin in the morning and before bed so that my skin will not be dry. I am looking for a good moisturizing cream like Cetaphil after reading your review, I'm going to shop for it. Thanks.

I have noticed that even though I have oily skin, the area around my eyes has gotten much drier this winter. It helps to eat foods with a higher water content, and be careful your cleansers. Most people use too much product.
