Halloween Magnetic Spiders

October 6, 2011 · Delia 48 Comments

What’s spookier than spiders all over your door?

Not much in my book, so I decided to turn it into Halloween decor!
It’s a pretty simple project.
I just took some plastic spider rings from the dollar store.
Cut off the ring part.
Then stuck some magnets on with hot glue.
The spider legs can get in the way of the magnet so you may need to tilt it upward and use a lot of hot glue, so that the magnet will fully stick to your metal surface. You don’t want the magnet to bend or ripple at all.
I started out using some advertisement magnets that come with the phone book. I have a white door so I just ripped off the colored tops to reveal the white paper underneath. I then cut them up and glued them to the spiders. I quickly discovered that I needed fairly large pieces of this kind of magnet for this to work…darn cheap magnets.
I then experimented with some stronger store bought magnet sheets so I could cut them smaller. Worked like a charm.
I ended up with about 40-45 spiders for a creepy crawly, spider invasion.
If you don’t have a metal door, put them on your fridge or any other metal appliance.
Bonus: They’re magnets so you can change them up daily if you want.
Have them attack the door.
Or come out in a trail.

ooooh.

Happy Halloween crafting!

“I think most spiders are solitary creatures so they are incredibly unlikely to come out in a line like this”

    Well, if there’s a basilisk in your house… 🙂

I made these a couple weeks ago and my boys LOVE them. Also I used magnets I got from the dollar store. I took the ones of kids locker containers (I think it was for pencils) I got two big thick strips off each for just $1. Thanks for the idea!!!!

Since I have a metal door, I thought this might be a fun/ easy decoration. I went ahead and used round magnets for sturdiness since I want to use them for future Halloweens. Was quick and easy and the boys loved putting them on the door. The best part was when I was sitting at the table cleaning up to see my husband (who knew we were working on the project) jump when he went to open the door.

As they said in Harry Potter "Follow the spiders? Follow the spiders?! Why couldn't it be "follow the butterflies"?

Cool idea to magnetize them. 🙂

Found you via Apartment Therapy. I love this idea! Our Halloween party theme this year is an abandoned house that has been overtaken by vermin and insects… so this will fit right in. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for such a cute idea ! Something I can do with my grandchildren. I live in a mobile home with large bay window which I use as my focal point already using spiders now. The kids can make them and Pawpaw can lift them on his shoulders and they can place wherever they want. It is so important to me to teach them these things and have so many memories of holiday decorating. Thanks again ! 1st
