ghost pictures

October 3, 2010 · Delia 6 Comments

So…I know I have been over blogging a bit. I seem to go in spurts…so …sorry I guess. 馃檪

The DPS Challenge this weekend is Artificial Light. I haven’t done the challenge in a while so I was itching to do it this weekend.

I have had Halloween on the brain of course so we…me and Owen, my five year old…did a ghost picture at bedtime tonight. It is a long exposure picture using artificial light as the only light source and it makes us look quite…ghostly.

I fiddled with the settings a bit and I should have, but didn’t, record them. So I THINK this is what I did:

ISO 100, Shutter speed: 20″ {seconds}, F25
I used the single incandescent light bulb in our hallway/stairs.

You can achieve this with a pocket camera if it has a manual setting. Just set your settings to match mine. Attach to a tri-pod or set on a sturdy table.

If you can, set the camera timer too. When you press the shutter button you kind of shake the camera no matter how hard you try not to. The timer helps you not rush it and the shutter won’t go off until you are in the shot .

Just an hour after we took this picture our hallway smoke alarm kept going off and there was no fire/smoke…nothing. The batteries weren’t dead either. Hmmp. Maybe there are REAL ghosts in our house. ooooooh! OOooooOO. Spooky. 馃檪

I have a question that has nothing to do with this post, and it might be kind of a silly question, buuuut… Where did you go to get your pictures printed for your gel medium canvas projects? I'm still itching to try it and I think I've finally decided on what pictures to try it on!
