dress up

July 26, 2011 · Delia 17 Comments

So…I am no fashionista. Far from it. But I finally got a door mirror for under $4 at Walmart. I was sick of dragging a chair into the bathroom to see if I could get a view of my shoes and skirt at the same time. If you don’t have a full length mirror you know just what I’m talking about! It’s an exercise in contortionism.
To celebrate my new mirror freedom, I unleashed my inner girl and played dress up. It’s more exhausting than I remember it being though. I also didn’t pick my clothes up off the floor much as a little girl so that’s probably why… 馃檪
I tried pulling things out that I’ve made to see if I could come up with new and interesting ways to wear them. Some attempts were successful…some still left me kind of stumped. Like I said…I am no where near being a fashion guru.

The black circle skirt is so versatile and lovely. I have two different white-ish tops paired with it here but with it being a black skirt I thought it would be too easy to do a million outfits with it. So I moved onto my other skirts. The black and white striped skirt was tough to find something other than black to match with and have it look right. At least from my closet.
My polka dot pencil skirt has been a bit under used lately. I think my ruffle scarf has too {link shows different colored version}. Putting them together made me happy.
And…I am pretty much decided that the green version of my Versa skirt is just too tight. The material likes to cling and for this kind of skirt is just not a great thing.聽 ; / I might be re-purposing it for something else in the near future. I’m still loving the striped one though.
My gray circle skirt…seriously. Thank you Dana for such a great skirt tutorial. I could wear this every week. So easy, and comfy and gives me plenty of options for tops and shoes. I love how the skirt looks good even when it’s kind of wrinkled/rumpled.
I especially love the last one with another one of my ruffled scarves.
I didn’t find a new way to wear some of my other scarves {found here and here} but they got me excited about wearing them again in just a few short months.
Am I the only one dreaming about Fall already? It’s hands down my favorite season.

Yay for the new mirror! I need to get a big one like that too. I have to scoot back so far to see how it looks down to my knees lol. You are too cute 馃檪

Oh, I need a mirror too. I have to go in my bathroom and get on the kids' stool to even see my knees. If I stand on the toilet and pick up one foot I can see my shoes. 馃槢

I'm excited for fall (this gajillion-degree weather is no good), and seeing those scarves reminds me that I really wanted to make a couple of cute scarves LAST winter but I didn't think of it until it was

You are so adorable it's ridiculous! I love every single outfit you created with your gray circle skirt! (Especially the one with the yellow stripe and red cardi.

I can't even get a chair back far enough to stand on it and see my shoes and skirt in this apartment! Why have I not gone out and bought a $5 mirror from Walmart? 'Cause I have a couple full length mirrors

I just got myself a new mirror too- maybe a day of dress up is in order. I like all of your outfits- they are so cute. Hooray for finding new outfits to wear scarves with!

Yay for the mirror and for playing dressup! How fun. We bought a really cheap full-length when we were first married, and after move #6 or something, it died. Now we're moving into a home, and that's one of the first things on the list! I'm also going to put one on the back of my sewing room door so I can try stuff on in there instead of hauling pins and things into the bathroom!

Sadly, I have not wanted to see myself in a full-length mirror lately because of too much time spent at the sewing machine sitting! 馃檪
I think you look super cute in the green skirt. The grey circle skirt is nice too. I got a piece of fabric at the thrift store yesterday and hoping it is big enough to make myself a circle skirt now.

You certainly look like a fashionista to me 馃榾 I'm blown away I haven't bought a door mirror yet. It must be done asap because I've almost killed myself on several occassions climbing on tubs, chairs, and stools (even while pregnant) to see whether or not I looked like a fool 馃檪

I keep looking forward to Fall but then I have to stop myself because it leads to Winter and it lasts FOREVER. So I'm happy to wear shorts and teeshirts and be sweaty hot for just another month or two!

I love your skirts, I do need to make a circle skirt from Dana's Made pattern, it looks perfect will all your different tops!

Ugg, you did not just suggest Fall, did you?! :] I'm demanding that as late as summer finally showed up, we'll be enjoying popsicles and the backyard pool through September! I can say that with no kids in school, eh? 馃槈 I admit, seeing your scarves gets me excited a bit- I don't wear them enough and always wish I did more! You look like a fashionista to me btw :] Have a great week!

hey delia! 馃檪 I love your grey circle skirt sooo much! I've been seriously thinking about making one lately and I think you just convinced me to do it! 馃檪 I love your striped skirt as well, and I think if you had a super bright shirt in any color it would work really well! Maybe a tighter fitting one if you're comfortable with it? I don't know, just some thoughts!

    Ps, I&#

It's 105 out here and I've been thumbing through catalogs dreaming of scarves, skinny jeans and boots. I've also tagged dozens of "fall" recipes.

I love the grey skirt with the yellow striped shirt. Too cute! I should take photos like this and keep them. Then I would be able to find an outfit in no time flat!

Cute outfit posts! Now that you have the mirror, you should definitely post more of these! I love that circle skirt as well… another one of those projects I'm planning on making someday! I think I'll try gray like yours!
