Guest Blogger: Blah to Tada

December 6, 2010 · Delia 2 Comments

I am so excited to introduce you to my first guest blogger, Claire from Blah to Tada. She takes ordinary items and turns them into beautiful crafts. If you want a place to get inspired check out her blog.

For example… {click on the pictures to link to the posts on her blog}

Here are some recent Christmas ideas she has been sharing.
This gingerbread house gift box is made out of a wheat thins box.

A tissue box.

Fabric softener sheets…she didn’t intend them for Christmas but I think they would make a great snowflake bunting!

And not Christmas related but ideas that I think are really cute…
She pasted her fortunes from fortune cookies onto these pencils.

And used them as little flags on her pie slices.

She cut up some shopping sacks for some bunting.

And used this hanger as a way to display a child’s art work.

Aren’t you inspired already? I often leave reading her blog with a new idea whether related to her post or not. Her outside the box thinking is just so contagious...and her blog just makes me smile. 🙂

I love this girl and I think you will too.

So let’s turn it over to her:

Hello! My name is Claire and I’m very honored to be guest blogging here in Delia’s delightful
blog.
I’ve got a little blog myself called BLAH TO TADA!
It’s derived from the words “blah”,
an adjective that means “dull”; and “Tada”, which the dictionary defines as “a jovial
interjection making an announcement, taking a bow, etc.” BLAH TO TADA! is a crafty
recycling blog where I turn everyday blah objects like toilet paper tolls, fabric scraps or
old t-shirts into useful things, and dare I say fabulous? Fabulous enough that I have to say
TADA! when revealing the result!

The holidays are upon us and that means gift-giving for family and friends. There’s also tip-giving for
those wonderful folks who make our lives easier like the baby sitter, hairdresser, postal carrier and
doorman. So if you’re giving out gift cards (I totally think it’s okay to give these as presents),

a check or cash, shouldn’t we package them like a store-bought gift, too? The element of surprise is part of the
ritual of giving, don’t you think?

Today, let me show you how to make a gift card holder or money envelope in BLAH TO TADA! fashion.

Our blah: a plain paper bag.
This held a Chinese take-out meal but you can use the ones you get
from the grocery store or favorite shop at the mall.
Cut the paper bag into a square and fold the square in half.
Seal the two open ends with glue.
Leave one side open – this is where you’ll insert the gift card or money.
Decorate with gift wrap remnants and embellish with sequins.
Jazz it up with magazine or catalogue cut-outs and hand-written greetings.
Brighten it up with stickers, cut the open end with decorative scissors and insert your gift card or money.
You may want to seal the opening with a tiny bead of glue to keep the gift from accidentally slipping out.
TADA! A personal touch for the monetary gifts
you’ll be giving away!
You’ll find more ideas like this on my blog this week.
Thanks for reading and thanks Delia for inviting me over.
I had so much fun!
Happy Holidays everyone!

I can’t wait to check out her blog to see what else she comes up with this week. Thanks again Claire!
