gummy gummy little star

August 4, 2010 · Delia Leave a Comment

I had all this gelatin from trying that egg substitute recipe so I thought I would try making the gummy candies that Not So Idle Hands made a while ago.

She said it was easy and it really was!

The foam side doesn’t look as pretty but, just as Emily said they would, they tasted good too.

Don’t let his grimace fool you he loved them and kept asking for more. These things were so chewy and soft. Yum.

A few thoughts from me on this recipe:

– I chose Strawberry banana for my flavor. Not the best choice. The banana flavor didn’t really survive and made the gummies taste like strawberries but kind of not. My kids and I liked them anyway but my husband had trouble with the flavor. So…I think it is best to stick with a strong single flavored Jello.

– Using the ice cube trays was easy and…well free {Yes our ice cube trays are the star shaped ones from Walmart – if we are going to have ice cube trays why not have interesting and fun ones right?}. It also made the gummy candies look like mini jello jigglers that you don’t have to refrigerate. Hmmm…Next time, I want to invest in a mold or two so the gummies will look more like candy. Also… When you pull the gummies out, you really have to pull if you are using ice cube trays. Just remember that.

Now go make your own gummies…fruit snacks which are candy really too anyway…whatever you want to call them! 馃檪
