{see the end of the post for giveaway details}
They also have a guide with 101 ways to their foam board.
Check it out here.

Using that guide, I've assembled a few projects that I'll be sharing all week. Foam board is relatively inexpensive and easy to use. I'm excited to show off some of it's versatility.

For today, I'm going to show what a good photography aid it is.
No cutting or gluing required. :)

First...
The tri-fold foam board is a great plain background to use for your tutorials or showing off your creations. It has faint grid markers on it but it doesn't show up in pictures. Having a plain background really lets your subject shine by eliminating other distractions.

You can of course choose to drape some patterned fabric or paper over it if you want something other than just a white background. The guide also shares how you can clamp some artificial light to the side to make it a photo tent.

Second...
Using the bi-fold foam board I made a inexpensive reflector. The bright white board reflects light onto your subject and reduces or eliminates shadows. Have you ever wondered why pictures taken in the snow often look so good? That's why.

Here are pictures I took straight out of camera {SOOC}. Absolutely no editing.
The first one is without the reflector/foam board, and the second one is with it held off to the side to reflect light onto the shadowed portion of my subject.

The settings are exactly the same and the lighting is the same. The pictures are taken within seconds of each other.

See the difference?

I tried it on my son in very low light so you can see it even more.

I happen to have a real reflector but it sure cost a lot more than this foam board. It's also kind of big and bulky so I don't use it as often as I thought I would. This small, handy bi-fold foam board does great for single person portraits and food photography.

Now for the giveaway...

Please leave one comment with your email address.
One per person. If you accidentally leave two, please delete one of them.

That's it!
I'll pick a winner on Friday, November 18, 2011.
The giveaway is open from now until 12:00 PM MST on 11/18/11.

I'll be back tomorrow with another foam board project!
