Rainbow with Jessica from Happy Together

Today we have Jessica from Happy Together coloring our summer with a fun rainbow project!

Jessica is a returning guest for Color Your Summer. She created a beautiful green crocheted necklace for Kojo last year. Go here to check it out.聽
I am so happy to have her visiting over here this year. Jessica is a beautiful mom to two adorable little girls. She sews inspiring stuff, she creates patterns – check out her shop!, she crochets, and her photography is absolutely breathtaking. Her blog is soothing and cheerful and her kind personality shines in each post. She’s one of those people that makes everything she touches beautiful.
This project is no exception. I love her project for today and I think you will too. Here’s Jess…

When you think of summer, you usually think of sunshine. But there are also a lot of rain showers that happen during that time as well and it’s fun to go out and play in them (when there’s no lightning or thunder of course ;).

So my oldest has wanted her very own umbrella for a while. We found a really cute at Walmart and we decided she should add her own special touch to it with some paint.

Untitled

It is a perfect Color Your Summer Project because it is “colorful” and a great summer activity to do with a child or to do yourself.

Untitled

You don’t need much. Some acrylic paint, a nylon umbrella, and some sort of round sponge (or you could use a paintbrush) are all you really need. We used small paint roller sponges. Sometimes it’s just too far to drive all the way to a craft store from where we live. If you wanted to protect the paint, you could also use an acrylic sealer or a medium to go over the polkadots when they are dry.

We used the wonderful rainbow assortment of colors that were c/o Decoart. She had sooooo much fun doing this. We would dip the sponge in the paint and they she would dab it on. The polkadots are a little messy since I let her do it all herself, but that is what makes is so special. She did it on her own.

Then let it dry for a night.

Untitled

Take it outside the next day and turn on a sprinkler or garden hose and test it out.

Now it’s ready for those summer showers and splashing through some puddles. Thank you for having me Delia! Have a wonderful and colorful summer everyone! -Jess

What a seriously adorable idea Jessica! It’s so simple to do but makes a big impact. I love projects like this! Thank you for bringing a rainbow of color to our summer!

And today must be the day of the dots. There is a super cute polka dot skirt tutorial over at Kojodesigns! Go check it out!

I pinned that skirt. I have to make it for my daughter and that umbrella would make the perfect accessory for our rainy days here in Portland!

This would also be super easy with bingo daubers. I’m not sure if they are waterproof which kind of defeats the purpose for an umbrella but would work great for other dotted rainbow projects.
