paper pumpkins for kids

October 13, 2010 · Delia 9 Comments

I am in kid craft mode with my 5 year old home from school this week for Fall Break.

I have seen these cute paper pumpkins made out of strips of paper floating around blog land a lot this year and thought it would work perfectly as a kid craft as well.

I upped the kid quotient a bit by taking white paper and marble painting it first, before assembling the pumpkin.

To make some yourself these are the materials you need:

8 1/2 x 11 white paper
orange and yellow acrylic paint
shallow box
marbles {i actually used large wooden beads because I couldn’t find our marbles – I lost my marbles! :)}

paper cutter – my five year old used this with some help from me
single hole punch – I had to do this because it is thick
2 brads per pumpkin
pipe cleaners for stem and vine {optional: pencil to wrap pipes around}

Here is a quick picture tutorial of what we did {with some drying time after the painting portion}:

Reid, my two year old, loved the marble painting part. The pumpkin assembly didn’t really hit home for him as well because I had to do a lot of the steps for him.

聽

Owen, my five year old on the other hand, loved every part. When we were done he was so excited to “decorate” his room with it. 馃檪

Later in the afternoon we had some pumpkin bread. Yum.
