Baby Jeggings

October 24, 2012 · Delia 21 Comments

There is something about baby jeans that are irresistible, yes?

Baby jeggings seem to amp up the cuteness factor even more.

As I was preparing for the Project Run & Play finale I decided to make a pair for Natalie. I ended up not using them because they didn’t fit in with Owen’s look and the other pieces I made (too dark to go with the tunic). But I spent some good time making them, so I decided a post was in order to make sure they still had their day in the sun.

Using the Peekaboo Shop’s Skinny Pant Pattern, I modified it down to size 6 months. It’s a wonderful pattern to follow and there is a fantastic size range, 12 month to 10 years, but I needed them to fit petite 7 month old Natalie. So I tweaked and guessed and mocked up a smaller version of the pattern.

Result? Not perfect but close. They came out a bit small, the waistband is a bit thick, and I should have put more rise in the back of the pants, but they still fit pretty cute!

I used a stretchy bottom weight fabric (stretch denim/twill?). All I know is I got this lovely, rich, purple color from Joann in the bottom weights section. It’s nice and soft with the perfect amount of stretch. It also has a nice sheen to it that’s kind of fun. I only needed to use half of a yard and I still have a lot left over. If you use a coupon, it makes these baby jeggings pretty thrifty. Just how I like it. 🙂

The button fly and the front pockets are fake. What baby really needs working pockets?

The back pockets are real but only because it’s just as easy to sew real ones as it is to sew fake ones.

I cinched the waistband together with a bright yellow button. I almost went with a safe matching purple button, but couldn’t resist adding a pop of color.

The one drawback to these dark purple jeggings, is that they collect lint like crazy! By the end of these pictures her pants looked fuzzy (as you can see) from crawling around. It could also be a little bit of ISO noise from taking these photos in low light? *Shrug.*

Either way, I think they look cute and comfy on her.

Love me a good baby jean. 🙂

So…I still haven’t started on the boys’ costumes! Procrastination is my middle name this week. I’ll be back tomorrow with a guest re-post, but you might not otherwise hear from me for a bit. I predict I’ll have a couple of long nights locked into my sewing corner. Nothing I’m not used to though!

Happy Wednesday!

Those are sooo adorbs! My lil girl (19 mos) has some that were a gift from The Children's Place and I love them on her….me, not so much! You did a great job on them. I didn't get to comment yesterday, but I was totally rooting for ya' on PRP! Bummed you didn't win, but loved your take on it. So inspiring….I CAN DO it! So impressed you tackled all of those things 🙂

So cute! I love baby jeggings, they are so cute but so comfy. One downside of dressing a boy, not really jeggings! Well I mean, you can, but I don't love the look on my chubster guy, ha. The only equivalent for him is the knit-lined jeans, which are also nice but not quite as cozy/flexible, I imagine.

Finished one costumes, two to go and I have to be done by tomorrow afternoon for Trunk or Treat. Will be up late tonight. Luckily Obi One shouldn't be too hard, no detail work just sewing. Your jeggings turned out beautiful!

Oh Delia, those are fantastic! I want to make some for Lola now! I was already planning to make them for my boys, but they’re so cute in the purple on Natalie. She’s such a doll!

I like babies in jeans too. My bestie thinks it's cruel to put them in jeans. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I think Natalie likes them too.
