Natty Janes Baby Shoe Pattern

The Natty Janes Baby Shoe pattern is a soft soled shoe pattern for babies and toddlers that comes in four adorable views. It makes great use of scraps and up-cycled materials to help you create a cute, comfortable shoe for pre-walkers and young kids. If you are familiar with the original Natty Jane Leather Baby Shoe Pattern, this is an updated and expanded version.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

SIZING: newborn through little kid 8. Please see the sizing chart in the pictures.

MATERIALS:

Main/Shoe upper: Faux leather/pleather, marine vinyl, leather (no heavier than 8 ounces is recommended), or thick wool felt..

Sole: Leather is highly recommended for the sole, but a faux alternative or thick wool felt may be used. Sole material should be between 5-9 ounces, or 1/16 – 1/8 of an inch thick.

Lining: High quality wool or wool blend felt. You may use an acrylic felt, but the comfort and finished look of the shoe will be much better with a wool based felt. Lining felt should be thinner than outer felt if using that for the main material.

TIP: Your local thrift store is a great resource for finding leather and faux leather materials. Purses and jackets often offer plenty of material needed to make a pair of little shoes. Michaels and Jo-Ann also sell bags of scrap leather, and Jo-Ann sells marine vinyl.

You will also need: snaps or laces, quilting clips, and a leather/heavy duty needle.
