Chocolate Drizzles

Do you love things that give maximum effect with minimum effort?

Me too…and that’s what I’m going to share with you today.

It’s these things I like to call…

You know, fancy little chocolates shapes you use to decorate desserts.

I use them all the time when I make cakes. See here and here. I’ve also made them for church functions from time to time and always get oohs and aahs. But it’s SO easy…and very inexpensive.

For family home evening earlier this week, I used them to decorate our banana ice cream. I’m trying to slim down our desserts after the fatty sugar overload from Christmas. Banana ice cream is perfect because all it is is frozen bananas. Seriously…AND it tastes good. I originally posted about it here.

Now to make the drizzles all you do is melt chocolate chips. That’s it. A one ingredient topping for a one ingredient ice cream. Love the simplicity. 🙂

I like to use semi-sweet chocolate chips. This is a scant cup’s worth. It doesn’t take much to make a lot of drizzles.

Place in a double boiler and melt. Mine is make shift with a small pyrex bowl placed on top of a small pan of boiling water.

Then I place a freezer quart sized bag into a tall container and fill it up with the melted and slightly cooled chocolate.

Squeeze the chocolate to one of the bottom corners, and make a tiny snip. Then drizzle all over a sheet of wax paper…as the name implies.

Let cool until the chocolate is no longer glossy. This can take a couple of hours. Putting it in the refrigerator speeds this process up.

Don’t forget to lick the bowl! 🙂

Then peel off the paper and decorate to your hearts delight.

Makes the ordinary feel a little fancy.

I tried out a few different shapes this time. I think I like the circles best.

I have also done chocolate writing before but it doesn’t stand up vertically very well. I had to lay it down on top of a giant cookie I made, like frosting writing. The thicker the shapes the better they hold…of course.

My kind of dessert…Mostly healthy with a little bit of sugary sweet. Yum.

    Just FYI, these probably wouldn't store well. You'd have to temper the chocolate correctly or else it'll get "bloom" on it. It's harmless and does not affect the flavor, it just makes the chocolate look really ugly.

    My stepmom used to pipe chocolate chips into butterfly shapes on wax paper. After they’d cooled a bit, but before they’s set completely, she would position the butterflies (still on wax paper) onto overturned egg cartons, letting them sink into the valleys to give the wings dimension. Super cute.
