Color Your Summer RED with Ruffles & Stuff

July 1, 2013 · Delia 6 Comments

If you’ve read my blog for a long time, then you know that my guest for today is my favorite person in blogland.
She’s beyond kind, she is a beautiful soul, she is an inspiring, loving mother to the cutest little girl…yep. Disney from Ruffles & Stuff is here! As if you aren’t already familiar with her blog and her tutorials…but here are some of my faves anyway: she is the upcycle queen, see this dress…my Natalie totally needs one of these, and I need one of these :). And you know her photography is in.credible – see her most recent picture perfect post HERE.

I’m excited for what this genius creative brain has in store for you today. Here’s Disney!

Hello, friends!
What an honor to be at Delia’s lovely space today. How. much. do. I. love. her. I remember when I first saw her blog years ago and I was so impressed with her photography and creativity that I felt downright pathetic in comparison. She’s just that good! But luckily she’s just that sweet as well. And it was so sweet of you to have me for Color My Summer, Delia! Thanks so much.
I’ll be honest, by the time I got to the sign up sheet to choose my color, all the good colors (pink and pink) were gone. ;o) So I chose red, and I have to say: I’m so glad I did! It has been a long time since I’ve kicked it with the color red and I forgot how fun she is.
I decided to make painted shell flowers which I–scouts honor–thought that I invented, but a quick google search later taught me that people have been doing this forever. (Whatever, Google. I’m still a genius.) :o) I thought this would be a fun summer craft to do with the littles as well!
They are so wonderfully simple to make!
  • Paint the inside of your shells first and let dry for about 20 min. (Use a hair dryer to speed things up!)
  • Flip the shells over and paint the outside.
  • Choose 5 large shells, 5 medium shells and 8 small shells for each flower.
  • Hot glue the large shells in a circle onto a piece of driftwood, large seashell or other flat surface.
  • Glue the medium shells on top of the large, offsetting the edges.
  • Glue the smallest on top of the medium, offsetting again.
  • Glue the last three small shells in the center.

Wasn’t that easy? And you have no idea how difficult it was for me to make them only in red. I’d love a rainbow of pastel flowers! Even white would be pretty.

Thanks again, Delia, for having me over! And thanks to all of you lovely readers. Have a wonderful day!! :O)

Love you!

I love these so much Disney!
I love how this can be adapted to a kid craft that I would want to keep up as permanent decor!
We have a trip to the beach planned later this summer. I can’t wait to collect shells and do this.

Wanting more from Disney? What am I talking about, of course you do! See this super cute tree stump pillow or this great peplum shirt tutorial.

And head over to Kojodesigns after that to check out what delicious blue fun is happening over there!

Such a great idea! I'm always trying to find fun ways to display the ever-growing "collection" of shells my girls love to bring home from the beach. Disney, you rock! xx
