I made a circle skirt too!

November 3, 2010 · Delia 14 Comments

Don’t you just love Dana’s tutorials? I know…they’re great. Her site…MADE is chalk full of great sewing projects.

I just made made me a circle skirt. I adore it. I had this gray remnant floating around my stash for a while…like at least a year. It was a damaged remnant so I got a big chunk of this fabric for only 60 cents I think….it’s been a while. I hadn’t found a use for it yet but then…this tutorial came a long and it was a perfect match!

Lucky me the skirt barely missed the damaged spots. So so close…but it made it. It is the first time I was thankful for short legs. 馃檪

Seriously…you can’t help but twirl in this skirt! It is so fun.

Dana’s tutorial is spot on. She gives helpful tips and very detailed and helpful instructions to help you get great results. When she tells you there is a long hem to iron and sew, she isn’t kidding…

Wowza.

But don’t worry. This was a fast and easy project. Because of how the skirt is cut it is halfway there just after cutting it.

I dyed my white elastic gray…it turned out okay but I really could have left it white and saved me some trouble and $1.50. I tried dyeing another dress I already had gray also…ha ha. ahem… Didn’t really work great but it was already a bright blue and gray is not really an overpowering color to start with so it just muted it. I was just experimenting because I didn’t want all the dye to go to waste, so it was fun to try something new. Dana gives great tips for dyeing elastic in her tutorial {which has a link to other dyeing tips if you are interested}.

Don’t have a serger for this project? I didn’t either. I used a zig zag stitch instead and it worked great.

Thanks Dana for another great tutorial!

The skirt turned out great, I’ve been debating making one of my own for a few weeks. I LOVE the shoes though. Where did you get those?

I have made a few circle skirts for my daughter since seeing Dana’s tutorial and they came out so cute (and I love that they are so fast and easy to make). I’ve been wanting to make one for myself, but I’ve never made anything for anyone bigger than a 1st grader and am kind of scared. You’re an inspiration….I am going to do it! Thanks 馃檪 Leah http://www.qstarhandmade.blogspot.com

Oh I love the fabric you chose and the linen look of it. Really classy looking. Never would have thought you spent about $2 on the whole thing!
Sorry the dyeing was giving you problems. There are many great tips in the comments section that I've been meaning to update. Some day… 馃檪
