Scenic Glass Ornaments

Making at least one handmade ornament for Christmas is at the top of my must craft list during the holidays.
So, today I’m going to share my version of some Country Living ornaments I found here.
They are very simple.
What you see is what you get.
Gather some supplies from the craft store…
I found these on sale at Michael’s for about 40 cents for the smaller size and 70 cents for the larger one. They look like glass but they are plastic which is nice if you have kids or if you are just plain clumsy like me!
I also grabbed a bag of these mini fake trees at Michael’s. If you use your coupon I think they are about $1/bag.
Gather some supplies around your house {possibly}…
*scrap felt
*hot glue and tacky glue
*glitter
*poly fill
*tweezers
*small crochet hook or bamboo skewer
*branches, or other random objects you want to try putting into a glass orb
Then let your imagination run wild.
For those snowy trees, I simply dropped some tacky glue into the bottom of the ornament and then stuffed bits of poly fill in to the bottom.
I learned the hard way that the hot glue looks weird if you drop it in first. So use the tacky glue. You shouldn’t have to let it dry too much before you proceed with the rest of the project.
Then I hot glued the bottom of the trees and placed them in with tweezers.
This takes patience and precision. Definitely not a project to do with the kids.
I added some spray glue to add a snowy look and so I could add some glitter.
The spray glue did not spread very well. It gave it a nice messy snowy look but I prefer the cleaner look you get from just dropping some glitter in and shaking it around.
For these bird/branch scenes.
I took some real branches from outside – free! 🙂 and stuffed them into the ornament. Be sure to grab plenty of extra branches. I would put some in and shake it around until it stuck how I liked it. I made sure to give it a really hardy shake so I knew it wouldn’t come loose.
This took several tries and many different branches until I got them how I liked them. I did not glue the branches in place but you could easily do this with some glue at the end of your tweezers or skewer.
Then I cut out little felt birds and glued them into place with some hot glue and tweezers.
The bird isn’t 3-D but still looks pretty from all sides.
This thicker branch got a dose of glitter before going in to the ornament..
I made some cute white love birds to sit on top.
I love the look of the clear glass.
During day…
and night….
And here they are all together. It’s hard to see the love birds in this picture…
But on my tree…they are quite lovely.
I hope you are enjoying your Christmas season!
