Mamachee: The Oma House Slipper and Giveaway

November 22, 2010 · Delia 102 Comments

If you want to skip my babbling go to the bottom of the post for giveaway instructions. 馃檪

On the top of my Christmas “to make” list, was a nice crocheted slipper for my Grandmother. She is the one who taught me how to crochet. It only took me oh…like 12 or so years to finally catch on, but I am learning to love it more and more and I have her to thank. I have several doilies and intricate lacy blankets made by her that I cherish.

Recently, her eye sight has deteriorated so much that she has had to give up crocheting.

Since I was a little girl I have always remembered her wearing her crocheted slippers around the house and thought making her a new pair this Christmas might just be the perfect gift.

I searched on etsy for the right pattern, found the Oma House Slipper from Mamachee and fell in love. It was the perfect basic slipper and聽 when she mentioned in her pattern description that she made these slippers with her grandma, I was sold. I ordered it and got to work.

My stitches aren’t perfect but I got better as I went along.

This is the original slipper with no changes. I used 100% cotton thread which I think looks cool but found that it is not as comfy.

I added some Mary Jane straps to the sides of some…I don’t even know if I did it “correctly.” I just slip stitched into the side of the slipper, chained 11, turned and dc back starting with the 2nd ch, and then slip stitched back into the side of the slipper again. I also did another slip stitch to the middle of the strap so it would hold better, before tying off. I sewed buttons on with needle and thread and then slipped the strap over through one of the crochet holes. Pretty simple.

These blue ones are for my Grandma.

These kind of remind me of a banana. 馃檪

I had some leftover yellow yarn and some navy blue in my stash, so I decided to experiment with this one.

You crochet with two strands of yarn at the same time so I thought it would be fun to try to blend two colors for the sole. It turned out a little wacky but kind of cool too. I crocheted it kind of tight so they are a little small for me. Whoops.

I think… the banana ones will be mine. 馃檪

I loved this pattern so much that I contacted Tara to see if she would do a giveaway and she agreed! Tara not only has an etsy shop: Mamachee, but she also has a cool blog:

She, of course has great crochet projects, but she also crafts!

Her blog even has some free patterns. Got to love free…

Now to the giveaway.

She is giving 1 pattern away to 3 winners!
So your chances are pretty good.
I really like the Oma House Slipper but you can choose from any pattern of equal or lesser value should you win…which is essentially most of her patterns! Take a minute to go to聽 her shop and browse around to see all the cool patterns she has.

Here are some of my favorites:

That hat on the left is perfect for my boys! I am kind of kicking myself for not purchasing her 3 pattern bundle deal.

So cute right? I need another baby to make these for! 馃檪

I want one of these hats for myself. I love that scalloped detail.

Now…Look at this! I love how she used twine/jute for the soles. She says you can also make the soles of the Oma House Slipper with jute for a real shoe. I may be doing just that this next Spring.

I have to admit I think this one is above my skill level at the moment but isn’t it too cool to not share?!

Oh my…a bear or bunny eared hat and matching bushy tailed diaper cover. Adorable.

I am a sucker for scarfs.

Aren’t her stitches perfect?

And of course I love these Oma House Slippers:

Are you a crocheter? Her patterns are clear, simple, and she has great stuff in her shop.

Not a crocheter? Her patterns make great gifts! I know I would like more patterns.

Love to see your blog and your creativity. I’ve made a few of your projects (ear warmers, apron and floofy shirt). Just picked up crochet and have been trying to perfect my stitches. They get so tight as I go. (And oh how oh how do you deal with the “crochet claw”? My hands are aching at the end of the day, but I just MUST finish the hat I’m working on.) Anyway. I’d love a shot at the patterns. The slippers, the sweet scalloped hats: so hard to choose!
