Natalie’s Christmas Dress

January 3, 2013 · Delia 31 Comments

My baby in red.

I thought about going non-traditional for Christmas colors this year, but I just couldn’t resist sticking with red and green.

I blame it on the shoes. I kept picturing bright red, ruby shoes that dictated the rest of the ensemble.

I used a cheap cotton fabric because it was what I had on hand and made a self drafted dress that sort of evolved as I went. It didn’t fit over her head at first, so I added a notch (very Washi like) the the front. 🙂 Stuff like that.

I quite love how it ended up though. I love simple looks.

I plan on making another dress with a tutorial.. soon.

I used a pattern similar to this one for the shoes (read more about it here), with some changes to make it a better fit for Natalie’s small, slim feet. I have a post on that in the works as well.

The tights were made using Made by Rae’s Baby Tights tutorial.

I love being able to make tights in any color and pattern. It’s really such a great tutorial.

Natalie’s cardigan was made using this tutorial I guest posted for I Am Momma Hear Me Roar.

And she was set for Christmas Eve! Well…that was the idea. This poor gal was sick all through Christmas. 🙁 She was finally well enough to wear it to church the following Sunday.

Because she is so petite (except for her head! ;)), I’ve gotten away with using the same 6 month size bodice pattern I used for Project Run & Play. I think it’s time for a bigger bodice now. It’s getting a bit tiiight. 🙂

That’s on my to do list this week!

Hope you are enjoying the new year so far. I am going to finally join the rest of the world in welcoming 2013. 😉 With this last Christmas post done, I am finally ready to move on. See you tomorrow!

Oh my goodness, what a peanut. You're right, the simplicity of it, the classic red, it's just so killer! I just love things that aren't so obviously flouncy and highly styled, you nailed this one.

So, okay okay, you can drag out the Christmas things. Who am I kidding, we all are!! I think everyone had sick kids for the holidays, mine was at New Years instead of

Glad she is feeling better! Elise was sick on Christmas Eve, but much better in the days following.

The dress is adorable, I really, really need to make more for Elise. I will regret it when she is bigger!

She is toooooooo toooo cute!!! She's such a natural model, it kills me. And this ensemble is absolutely perfect. The dress is adorable, but the shoes and tights are what clinch it for me 🙂

    Thank you sweet friends!

Amy – oh a simple box pleated dress would make a lovely blessing dress. The tutorial will be out in the middle of the month. I've added lace to the bodice and bias tape too. 🙂

Erin – oh my goodness! That is terrible. I hope everyone is on the mend now.

Jessica Oliveto – Man. It really seems like everyone has been extra sick this year

The dress is adorable (especially with those gray striped tights!), but I’m dying over these pictures of Natalie! So cute! My son was basically bald until he turned one and I’ve missed kissing his soft, warm baby head ever since. Baldies are the best! 🙂

      Hi Bonnie!

My apologies. This is not a tutorial. Just an inspiration post. The geranium dress pattern is very close to it. You can find it here: http://www.made-by-rae.com/category/patterns/geranium-dress/
