Organization, Martha Style

November 14, 2012 · Delia 183 Comments

After Project Run & Play, my sewing wall was a disaster and in need of some serious organization and clean up.

Around this time, Avery sent me a box of supplies from Martha Stewart Home Office™ with Avery™ to review. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

I quickly put the items to work in my sewing area and in the rest of my “home office” which, as a mom and a blogger, encompasses pretty much the rest of the house. We live in a small space, so we have to work hard at not only getting things to fit but look nice as well. The Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery supplies help with this perfectly. All the products are aesthetically pleasing but also smart in design and made to last.

First, I used the Stack+Fit™ organizer as a catch all on top of our shoe shelf. It’s a great place for our keys, our cell phones, and our mail. It’s so nice to have a ‘home’ for all those items instead a pile of clutter.

The Stack +Fit is actually a whole line of complementary organizers that you can stack on and with each other, so you have a lot of storage options.

Next, I moved to my sewing room. Using some over-sized mugs I got at the Dollar Store and some cute Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery Chalkboard Labels, I organized my brushes, markers and tools. I wrote fun little motivational reminders, instead of straightforward labels since the contents are obvious. The chalk doesn’t rub off easily which is a plus, but is still easily erased with a damp cloth. The label adheres very well but peels off cleanly if you need it to. I pulled a few labels off several times to get them straight with no problems.

These would go great in a kitchen or even to label dishes at a party.

I then used the Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery Accordion File to organize my sewing and crochet patterns, which have outgrown my little three-ring binder.

The patterns fit nicely in the accordion file with room to grow. I like that it can stand freely for ease of access to its contents. The bottom band and top strand of elastic keeps it all contained and streamlined as well.

Because my sewing table sits atop our file cabinet, I used the Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery Shagreen Pocket as a place to hold all our papers to be filed away or shredded. The packaging it came in claimed that it can hold up to 50 sheets of papers.

It looks pretty … sure, but I was skeptical that it could hold up that much weight.

Then I saw the tacks it comes with. Those things are like ice picks, and the folder/pocket is sturdy and expandable. I’ve had no problems so far!

Avery also sent me other miscellaneous products to try.

A simple, yet bold journal with (what else?) entertaining tips in the back, place setting diagrams and even a tutorial on how to fold your cloth napkins into a lotus flower. Oh Martha, what would I do without you?

I received a little organizer perfect for keeping in your purse that has places for emergency numbers, car insurance information, and little notes on the calendar reminding you when to sharpen your knives or clean out your closets.

Avery also sent high quality adhesive backed note pads, cute kitchen food labels, folders, and clever x-shaped rubber bands.

I got a 40% off coupon to use to try even more Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery stuff out. I decided to get some cute round, metal rimmed tags that were on sale and some clothing tags that require no ironing and are washer and dryer safe.

I promptly labeled the boys’ jackets as they have started bringing them to school. It’s hard to see in pictures but the stickers are a very interesting, flexible vinyl/plastic material. I have high hopes that the labels will last, and it’s nice not having to write their names directly onto jackets that will be handed down to siblings.

I think the metal rimmed tags will go well with the Martha Stewart wrapping paper.

They have a line of both traditional wrapping paper and Kraft paper, which I love! Kraft paper is my favorite way to wrap presents.

The Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery products are exclusively sold at Staples and are everything you would expect from Martha. Functional, yet pretty. Very well made, with high quality materials. Simple in design.

My first memory was seeing her tutorial on how to fold fitted sheets neatly….when I was in high school, keeping up with the linen closet was my job – so that tutorial was a lifesaver!!!

My first memory of Martha was seeing her living magazine at a grocery store when I was a teenager. One of the first checks I ever wrote when I got my first checking account was my subscription to her magazine when I was 17. Much more useful to have 15+ years of Martha living magazines than if I had been into Cosmo!

My first memory is probably from high school when my friend and I were in love with getting any and all wedding magazines and planning our respective dream weddings at some point in the future anyway 😉 The Martha Stewart wedding magazine was amazing and had so many gorgeous ideas. I actually ended up using several from those saved magazines when I did get married in college!

I feel like Martha has always been around my life. I remember watching the OLD Martha Stewart shows. (I feel like that was the really good stuff.)

I checked out a book from the library on gingerbread. Looking at the terrible piping and photography, I couldn't help but think, "This book was obviously before Martha. She's raised the bar."

And her tips were so smart! It had a guide for folding napkins and I still have that page that we ripped out in the entertaining section of my binder. Martha is the best!!

The first memory I have is Martha on tv prepping for the holidays – making some delicious food and decorating her home. I'm sure her dogs were on the show too

I first saw her magazine at a friend's house and was amazed. I've been a fan ever since.

My first memory of Martha was watching her on the David Letterman showing cooking.
