Skirt Progress

October 15, 2013 · Delia 16 Comments

Hello there!

Just checking in today. No tutorial…just me in front of my garage, standing in the rain. 馃檪
I was planning to release this pencil skirt as a free pattern this week, but then my sweet friend Mie, gave me the confidence boost I need to grade it and sell it. At first, I was skeptical. My first solo pattern for…聽women? What am I nuts?
And maybe I am. But I am going to really give it a try. Eek! 馃檪

After all…if you look where the original pattern started and how it’s shaping up now…that’s what is motivating me to do it. It’s a really basic skirt, but the work has gone into the fit. It’s taken several versions to get to this point, and I have a couple more changes in the works to make this an even better pattern….well hopefully!

(Excuse the wrinkles…this was taken at the end of a day of wearing.)

Of course, I wouldn’t even try to attempt this without聽Melly Sews’ Illustrator courses. Melissa is great at making Illustrator less scary and more doable. I just started the grading course which should help move things along.
I can’t make any promises of when the pattern will be out, since this is all new to me.

If all goes well during the testing phase, then you’ll see a pattern for sale here. And if not…a freebie instead. 馃檪

Thanks for sticking with me as my posts have slowed down. I have also been sidetracked with moving boxes and some home decor projects, which I’ll share soon! Well…not the moving boxes. 馃槈(Whenever my husband plays photographer I make the weirdest faces ^^^ ha :))Have a good one!

What a great skirt! Looking forward to it. I took a basic/beginner Illustrator course recently and loved it! I learned so much. I have no idea when I will actually use any of it, but it is a good skill to have.

Finding a good pencil skirt or A-line skirt is hard these days. I tend to like A-lines with a little extra at the bottom so it flairs. When I find one, if there are different colors, I buy several because it's hard to find them.

    You did a lovely job!

Oh yay, I need a skirt like that! If you need pattern testers in the medium sizes I'm your gal, and if not I'll buy as soon as it comes out. I know you can do it and I can't wait!

If you're looking for pattern testers, I'd be up for it! I normally wear between a size 2-4 but I'm not sure if my hips shrunk all the way from post pregnant body.

Oh, I hope you were shopping for fabric the other day when I saw you at JoAnns. This is super exciting! I hope things go well, I would love to buy the pattern! Being larger on the bottom end, it is hard to find a good pencil skirt that doesn't make my rear look huge! Good luck!
