Umbrella shirts

November 9, 2010 · Delia 23 Comments

We have had some rain/ wet snow mix around here this week. Perfect weather for the boys’ new umbrella shirts.

I found this fabric for $5 for a 5 yard bolt at Walmart. It wasn’t as thick this time as the navy thermal knit I got last time so I zig-zag stitched everything to feel confident it would all hold.

I made a 90-minute shirt from MADE for Reid, my youngest.

Owen got a shirt I patterned after a shirt he has in his closet…well I guess I should say drawer really. 馃檪 It is fairly similar to the 90 minute shirt but with a different collar. I did not use ribbing so it fits a little tight coming off, but my son has other store bought shirts like that so I don’t feel too bad.

He might disagree though. ha 馃檪

I also messed around and made me some leggings. I followed Dana’s ruched legging tutorial but just didn’t runch them. I still don’t know how I feel about the print on me.

If I don’t feel brave enough to wear it exposed again, I will certainly wear them under my jeans when the snow comes. It is thermal knit after all.

I would say rain rain go away but I know it won’t. We are supposed to get more snow this week. So…bring it on! 馃檪

Way to go, Walmart! That's super cool fabric! And I'm loving those shirts- both of them. They look really fantastic! AND- You should DEFINITELY be brave and wear those leggings. They look absolutely rockin! Really. If I saw you on the street, I'd think you looked hip- not lame at all. I love it all! Great work!

Love the shirts! – the pattern is great!

And WEAR the leggings, who cares! Do you like them? Then WEAR them – super cute on you – I want a pair.

It's not always about being brave enough, it's sometimes about just being happy.

Your blog is awesome, by the way. Love to see your posts! I have 2 boys also, and you give inspiration!

Please wear them in public. They are so cute. I LOVE those shirts on your boys, too. They are adorable. They'd be so cute with a short sleeve over the top too, with the umbrella arms hanging out. Great work, Delia!
