This week is fashion icon week at Project Run & Play!
I picked Jackie Kennedy, because I really identify with her fashion aesthetic.
Her sense of fashion was very classic and timeless. There are outfits that she wore that I would wear straight out of the picture today. And everything she wore was simply elegant and beautiful.
To translate "Jackie O into baby wear, I simply took details I liked, from a collection of different pictures of Jackie O and implemented them into one ensemble for Natalie.
Let's start with the dress...
Next, is the jacket/cardigan/almost sweater dress.
The back is gathered in pleats.
The pink wool is from a sweater I've had since high school. Just this last year, it fell victim to moths. :( Only a small part was eaten, so I salvaged it for a later project. It proved perfect for this jacket for Natalie.
Since it is 100% wool , it should keep her warm this fall and winter. The softer, sweater nature of this jacket makes it much easier for a baby to wear, and for me to buckle her into her car seat! :)
(The covered buttons you see above did not get used. I ended up finding some great pink buttons in my stash that worked better. )
Now for the colors and details.
Pink seemed like the obvious choice for Jackie Kennedy, since she seemed to wear it well, whether in her clothes or the lovely pink lipstick she wore often.
The remaining details include a navy satin polyester diaper cover using MADE's pattern found here, and a leather bow headband using leftover leather from making the shoes and navy colored fold over elastic.
So that's the ins and outs of it.
As you can see, those leather shoes are already getting worn in!
I named this look First Baby.
