Banana Popsicles

June 3, 2011 · Delia 10 Comments

I got a new popsicle mold for Mother’s Day.
It was just what I wanted. My 6 year old is a better listener than I thought. 馃檪
This last week we made some whole fruit Banana pops.
We used a banana ice cream recipe and then stuffed it into the mold.
Ta da.
This doesn’t work with anything but a silicone mold. Trust me…I’ve tried several molds.
If you want to use another mold you need to add juice or some kind of liquid, and even then it can be tricky if you don’t add enough. Or if you have a chest freezer you might be able to get better results.

EDITED TO ADD: The mold I use is this one from Orka by Mastrad. The orange colored ice pop is actually the mold. 馃檪
Pros: silicone makes it easy to remove ice pop from mold, has a fun shape, the handle catches drips and has a eye in the “stick” that is inserted in the fruit to help it freeze better.聽
Cons: The pops are a bit small and only make four at a time. Otherwise we love it.

I can’t wait to try other whole fruit pops.
聽Mango, strawberries, watermelon? Maybe add some yogurt in there.
I like these banana ones, because a baby could eat them. It’s just one ingredient: frozen bananas. And it uses up my overripe bananas in a way that’s perfect for summer. The more ripe they are the sweeter the popsicles are.Delish.
My kids love them and treat them like a sugary treat. I tell them it’s just bananas and they still go crazy over them. And I feel pretty good eating them too. 馃檪
Have a lovely, sunny weekend!

Sounds great, and healthy too. Does the mold just screw right off? That's great design!

Fun and delicious! I love it. I need to get my kiddos some molds. They always beg me to make popsicles. Guess it's time to follow through. 馃檪

It looks delicious, and I will have to remember about using silicone molds. And probably not plastic.

    Thanks!

These look so yum…unfortunately bananas are upwards of $15 a kilo here in Australia at the moment (that's $3 a banana)…we still love fruit pops even in winter.
