Easy Half Apron

September 27, 2010 · Delia 9 Comments

So…another apron. My “nousin”…which is a word I made up for my husband’s cousin’s daughter who is getting married.

Her bridal shower is this weekend. We live in the same state as her but not close enough to attend. We still wanted to send her a gift but had to work with these parameters:

1. easy to mail…and light 馃檪
2. in keeping with our student budget

Not easy, let me tell you. But then the idea came from who of all people? My husband. He was brainstorming with me and casually mentioned another apron. Perfect! I grabbed a fabric remnant and another yard of fabric I got for $1.50/yard from Hobby Lobby {marked down because the bolt was doused with vinegar which washes right out anyway} and went to work.

This isn’t really a tutorial but a quick how to.

1. Take a yard of fabric and fold it in half right sides together. Sew up short sides, turn out, press.
Cut three strips about 45 wide and 9.5 inches long.
Sew two of the strips in half along the length, turn out and press.
Iron the middle strip in half and with edges folded in about 1/2 inch.{all four edges}

2. Pleat and pin skirt part. Sew close to edge to help pleats to stay when you sew the waistband on.

3. Sew middle strip on like bias tape.

4. flip middle part over and pin in place. Attach other strips to the sides. I had to pleat the side strips a little to make them fit. Sew where you have pinned and sew ends of strips closed.

Easy and done!

It is a little thick but I think it is good to have something more substantial to wipe your hands on. It is also pretty long but she is like 6 inches taller than me.

I threw in a heat resistant spatula, which I happen to have as well and love. {shhh…it is only $1.99 at Walmart}I hope she likes it. 馃檪

Happy bridal shower Brooke!

what kind of student budget? I didn't know y'all were in school. Adam's in his third year of dental school and I always love to find friends attempting the school-and-family route like we are. 馃檪

I love it! I make aprons too. That fabric is just too cute. We're getting a Hobby Lobby here by Christmas and I can't wait to see their fabrics!
