Five Little Pumpkins Finger Puppets

Hello Family Ever After readers.

I am so happy to be here for Rach’s blog birthday bash!
I’m Delia and I blog over at delia creates.
One of the main things I absolutely love about Rach’s blog is that she values her family. It’s even in her blog title. Love it.
So today, I thought I would share a fun Halloween activity you can do with your kids!
The materials are simple.
A loaner glove. I found it when I was getting our gloves and hats out for the season. You could also just pick up a cheap pair at Walmart for $1 which equals just 50 cents per glove. Got to love that.
Some scrap felt. If you don’t have scraps lying around, they often go for about 25-50 cents a sheet at Michael’s. When you’re done keep the scraps for your next project! I almost never throw felt out that’s bigger than the palm of my hand and often keep pieces that are smaller.
Tacky glue. You could use hot glue, but I wanted my son to be as involved as possible. He’s three, so tacky glue it is. 馃檪
For older children you can skip this step, but for younger children who have a lot less patience, skill, and attention span. You will want to pre-cut the pumpkins, and the jack-o-lantern pieces.聽
That way, your child can just pick and choose from what you have available.
Young children love to make choices. So let them have at it.
I really thought my son would want to mix up the faces with the nose at the top and the mouth sideways, I even made those suggestions to him, but I was so wrong. He wanted them to all look very normal. 馃檪
We found that using a pool of glue and a toothpick made gluing a lot easier.
The mouths were a cinch but mom help was required for the eyes, nose, and stems. The toothpicks were also really handy for helping us to place the small face pieces.
Once you have all five pumpkins decorated, glue them onto the fingers of your glove.
I later went into each finger of the glove with a wooden spoon handle to make sure the fingers weren’t getting glued shut.
We did most of our gluing on a piece of paper so clean up was easier.
Now let it dry.
With tacky glue this can take some time. We waited about an hour.
聽Then slip it on and sing one of our/my favorite Halloween rhymes:
Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, “Oh my it’s getting late!”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air!”
The third one said, “But we don’t care!”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”
The fifth one said,”We’re going to have some fun.”
Ooo-oooh went the wind
and out went the light.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
*Original credit for the rhyme…not sure. I’ve heard a few slightly varied versions and no original author.

Thanks to my husband for being my little puppeteer. You can tell his hand is a little too big for the glove. 馃檪

  6. A lovely craft you have made. I have my own "Creative" group under Friends Reunited. You are very welcome to join. I always make a halloween scary or smiley face from a pumpkin and put lighted candles inside. We leave it on the windowsill so the children and their parents can see it when they go "trick-a-treating." I also make black spiders from black card and hang those

  14. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas you share freely with the "world"! I'm a "stingy" person according to my daughter, so I put velcro on the back of the pumpkins
    so I can re-use the glove for other characters/songs. As I don't have a blog I thought I could share this here – hope you don't mind!
