the SHARF…shawl scarf

Remember this scarf I was admiring from Anthropologie? Well it looked better on the dummy than on me. Maybe the wool makes it drape better? I don’t know. All I know is that when I put my scarf on it looked like this:

It was too long and hard to wear as a shawl. As you can see I couldn’t figure the darn thing out.

I nicknamed it the sharf barf. Blech.

Then I wised up and made it shorter…

…now I love it.

I call the SHARF{no barf this time} because it is a scarf that can turn into a shawl!

This is sooooo easy to make. Soooo easy.

Here we go.

1. Get about a 1 1/3-1 1/2 yards of fabric. {The pictures show it longer but…ignore that :)}
Fold it in half with a hot dog fold – long sides together and if your fabric has a right side, right sides together. Sew along the long side.

2. Pull the tube you have just sewn right side out only聽 HALFWAY. You want the ends to meet together at one side with right sides of the tube together.

3. Sew the two ends together leaving a small opening unsewn. Turn it inside out.

4. Sew up the opening. You can handstitch it or machine stitch it. I machined stitched it making sure to only going through one layer.

Do as I say and not as I do :)…make sure you line up your pattern so it looks like one complete tube that never starts or ends. Yeah. 馃檪 Pins are good.

Now…wear.

I admit I like the preppy plaid. In fact… I am sucker for many things preppy. I like how it is cowl like, yet still a scarf…

…and a shawl…

and…even a twisted shawl {thanks for the tip from Tracy who linked me up to this gal’s etsy shop who inspired me to twist this thing}

So I know not everyone is into the shawl look but I think it’s perfect to Fall.

Picture me at the pumpkin patch…ha ha. This looked better in my head. I promise. 馃檪

I have more coming up in the next week in the way of me really trying to make a crocheted hat...cross your fingers please, I would cross mine but that might make it harder to crochet… 馃檪
