Sock Keeper

Putting away laundry is one of my most dreaded chores. To make things easier I decided to try doing a load or two per day. I know what you’re thinking…wouldn’t that make things worse since I have to put clothes away daily instead of weekly? That’s what I thought at first. But so many other moms I respect were doing it, so I figured there was a reason and I should give it a try.

And…after having tried it for a couple of months I have to say it IS much better! I am way more motivated to put away a few stacks of clothes each day rather than 20+ piles once a week.

It does create one problem though…I can’t keep sock pairs straight all the time. Especially those little socks that get stuck in pant legs. I end up with a consistent little pile of single socks waiting for their mates to get washed so they can be put away.

Then I saw this project and thought…that is what I NEED!

So this is my version. Just a white frame with some raffia covered wire, hot glued into the back. Add some white clothespins and it’s all ready for my little pair-less socks.

And you know these other pictures with just three cute, itty bitty Reid socks were just for show. This is how it’s really going to look most of the time. 🙂

And just in case you were wondering…I don’t plan on toting framed socks around with me everywhere. 🙂 I just had to hold it up to good light because our laundry room is really a dark, dank closet.

Happy Wednesday!

Who cares about that super cute frame? I'm jealous that your nails are always painted! Ha ha ha ha. Seriously though, I need that frame! Mine would have to be an 11×14. Great job!

You are a smart woman:). I also try and do at least one load a day. I don't mind doing the wash and folding–it's the putting them away that I don't like!

Fabulous idea! Especially with small childrens socks because they always seem to turn up in the most odd places!

This is such a cute project! —And soooo much better than that laundry basket I always have lurking in the laundry room that’s holding random socks. –Thanks!

Great idea but unfortunately I would need a whole clothes line of space to hang our mountain of lost socks. I’m thinking of throwing them all out and starting again!

Um, I would need about 100 of those frames. We have TWO laundry baskets full of socks that need to be mated. How did I get to this point?

That is way cute. I need to try this whole one load a day thing, I seriously spent the entire day yesterday doing laundry (and of course 30 min later there were more dirty clothes in the basket).

Okay, so I’ve been totally thinking of doing the daily laundry thing, too. Because I just can’t seem to keep up doing it once a week anymore. I seem to wash/dry Mon/Tue then don’t get around to folding until Fri/Sat and by then it’s almost time to start all over again. Anyway, I feel like I’m doing it daily anyway. I’m not sure why you need to know this. I guess just that your endorsement of the daily load thing may just sway me into that camp. Also, cute sock finder! 🙂

So I’ve been a reader for a while (love it), but just realized that we have very similar lives. Pretty sure we live in the same valley, I also have 2 boys (5 and 2) and my husband is a grad student! For all I know we are next door neighbors 🙂

I love this cute little upcycling idea and it made me laugh out loud!
I have sooooo many odd socks and I definitely would need a very large frame and a very large wall to 'display' them.
Do you mind if I use your image and link back to you? I want to use it as inspiration for a competition on my upcycling blog.

Thanks for having such a cute blog.
