My Dad likes hot drinks so when I saw Momma Makes make this etched mug I knew this would be great for Father’s Day for him. We get to see him the week before Father’s Day so I don’t have to worry about mailing this thing really breakable thing too!
It is pretty simple but here is some how to:
Trace your kids’ hands on contact paper. Mine is some ugly stuff from the dollar store.
Cut the hands out. Wash and dry your mug. {I was hoping for a more manly mug but couldn’t find one sold near me. shrug.}
Carefully apply the contact paper to the mug. Be sure that you make a nice seal around the hand print. I thought I did but I still had some leaks that I found when I was done. So double check.
Apply etching cream thickly {I found that Hobby Lobby has it cheaper than Michaels in case you wanted to know – and use your coupon because this stuff is NOT cheap} and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. Wash off with water and dry with a clean cloth. Do a second application if you desire. I didn’t and wish I had…but it still turned nice enough.
Now all we need to do is fill it with fun Grandpa treats. 馃檪
I love that it is kind of like my boys are holding the mug with him. Every time he gets a drink he can be reminded of how much they love him.

I found your blog doing different searches for cute new craft projects. You are super fun & completely adorable! I love that you mention how pricey etching cream is…especially since it can take a lot. Did you know you can scrape the majority of it back into the bottle and re-use it? It saves a ton.
I was wondering what size of etching cream you bought? I am going to be making 6 different glasses for Father’s Day and am not sure on what size etching cream to purchase.
You don’t really need too much. You can reuse it and a little goes a long way. It has been a while since I have bought a new jar so I don’t remember what sizes they come in. But if you feel like you won’t use it for more projects in the future, you could probably get away with a small jar. Hope that helps! 馃檪
