homemade play dough

One of our summer bucket list items was to make homemade playdough.

Using this fantastic recipe from V and Co. We made this almost better than store bought stuff. Seriously.
When we added the food coloring we also added some drink powder mix to help it smell pretty. We all smelled like watermelon tropical punch when we were done. 🙂
Making this play dough depleted my stash of cream of tartar. I was pretty bummed because I wanted to make more colors.
But then, the boys smooshed, and smashed, and pounded these two colors together until it all looked kelly green. So then I decided that’s likely what would have happened to all the colors I was dreaming of making, and we would have ended up with gobs and gobs of brown play dough. Yeah…two colors was plenty.
Have a good weekend!

I love your idea to add powdered fruit drink to the mix to make it smell good! Awesome!

I might have to get over my hatred of play dough and try this. My son LOVES playing, but seems to get little pieces everywhere! Love your idea of adding koolaid.

Go to Winco and get cream of tartar for cheap from the bulk scoop bins! 🙂 Fun project!

We made play dough this morning and my 2yr old sat still playing with it for hours through out the day. We started off with 7 colors and we now have one huge blob of multi colored dough.

I can't resist sharing the play dough recipe we use that skips cream of tartar and skips the cooking! It's easier, a bit tidier, and VIBRANT!

    Mix together:
1 C flour (sifted if you like)
    1/2 C salt
    1 small packet Kool-Aid

    Add:
3 Tablespoons oil (I use canola)

    And Then:
    1 C BOILING water

Mix with a spoon, knead, then
