Red: Tension Rod Puppet Theater

Coax the inner thespian out of your children this summer by making them a quick, easy puppet theater!

All it takes is 2 tension rods and 2 yards of fabric.

Here’s how:

First gather your materials.

As I mentioned, you’ll need two tensions rods. I found mine at Walmart on the drapes aisle for just over $2.

You’ll also need 2 yards of fabric. I used 2 yards of red cotton broadcloth from Hobby Lobby, but almost any kind will do.

You’ll also want to heat up your iron (so that you don’t have to pin).

Be sure to leave openings at both ends of the casings.

Then tighten them into a doorway.

Ta da! Instant puppet theater.

The only thing left to do is put on a show!

My boys rounded up some of the puppets they made with me last year, along with some others we had in our toy basket.

Natalie and I were happy to play audience.

Don’t you love the cute little flower Christie made for her? I love the fabric! Thanks Christie!

We also tried clothes-pinning a blanket on for a background. Owen made some paper puppets for it, of what else…a shark and a squid. 🙂 Owen is squid obsessed if you didn’t know.

You could easily make a butcher paper background as well.

When you’re all done, don’t forget to take a bow.

Thank you, thank you. 🙂

Not done seeing red? Go to Kojodesigns for another great red project from Whipperberry.
