Summertime Boy’s Swim Shorts

June 29, 2011 · Delia 6 Comments

I can’t believe summer is finally here!
It has been so wet that we’ve had April/May weather for most of June. This last week that all turned around, and we finally had a reason to turn on our swamp cooler.
…And to wear flip flops everywhere.
Doesn’t that look a little painful? It gets worse. Look.
Ouch. Poor pinky toe. Reid didn’t seem to notice though. 馃檪 He was just happy to put them on all by himself.
I also made some swim shorts last week. Following Dana’s {MADE} Kid Swim Trunk tutorial of course.
I didn’t want to lose the pockets from my thrifted swim trunks so this is what I did:

It is admittedly very imperfect. Because I didn’t the line the pattern up just right, the inside seam is off. I would have been able to accommodate this imperfection at the waist if I didn’t have the outside seams already fixed in place, but it’s good enough…

聽The boys like them. So that’s what matters.
聽Reid looks so tough.
聽But then you get a closer look at his pink cell phone… 馃檪 Ha ha.
He loves that thing. We all hate it. Owen has actually threatened to break it because makes all sorts of really, really loud sounds. I won’t let him, but kind of wish I could. He picked it out at the dollar store as a prize for filling up his chore chart {we are experimenting with a new chore system}. I just hope it runs out of batteries very soon.
聽This guy is so slim. I had to bring in that waist quite a bit because it sags when he gets soaking wet. He is our better eater too. To have that kind of metabolism…
聽I made these suits just in time. They have been put to good use already. Running through the sprinklers, playing in our neighbor’s plastic pool, and we even made it to the community pool last week.
Hope you’re enjoying your summer too!

Holy cow Delia! I couldn't even see your "mistakes" until you pointed them out! You did a fantastic job. I am in awe. LOVE the scrunched up toes. I do that when I sit at my computer. Ha ha ha ha!

Oh this post makes me smile! The flip flops are so reminiscent of my boys too- there really is no right feet/ wrong feet in their minds! So cute 馃檪 Our weather just barely turned too and we are lovin' it also! Hope it keeps up for us both 馃檪

Great job… I have one little one who is too skinny too and things fall off her all the time.
