Carrie Cardigan – Sewing Pattern RELEASE!

December 8, 2016 · Delia 15 Comments

It’s here! It’s finally here!

Carrie Cardigan - Sewing Pattern RELEASE! // www.deliacreates.com

A year ago I released the Carrie Cardigan pattern for the Sew What Club, but I dragged my feet getting it together for re-release in my shop, because it’s so much work to get it right.

Thanks to amazing reader support, I found the energy to get it done. AND I whipped my shop into shape. Yay for productivity!

First, let’s talk about the Carrie Cardigan.

Carrie Cardigan - Sewing Pattern RELEASE! // www.deliacreates.com

The Carrie Cardigan is a relaxed, split front聽cardigan with dolman style sleeves. It comes in two lengths and two sleeve options, so you can mix and match it into a version to suit your style.

I personally prefer the long length and long sleeve, but a good chunk of my tester group sewed the short length. I’ll share more of their posts and photos soon!

You can sew up the short sleeve version in a woven or a knit. Although, it’s not really short for a short sleeve. It wears more like a half or 3/4 sleeve.

My fabric kept static clinging to this blouse, but you get the idea. 馃槈

The long sleeve version needs knit, the more drape-y, the better.

I got all of my sweater knits from fabric.com. Here are my affiliate links for each:

Grey and Black Marled Sweater Knit

Gray Ribbed Knit

Sand Marled Sweater Knit

To buy the pattern, it’s only $8.50 and you can get it in my brand new SHOP!
It feels good to link to that…finally. 馃檪

The great thing about the new shop is that you get to create an account. That allows you to access your pattern anytime, anywhere. Download or view any pattern you have purchased here as many times as you need. It’s all right there.

There is also a download link on the order confirmation page AND another link that gets sent to you via email (but you might need to check your spam box). Basically, the new shop makes your patterns even easier to access, which is a great thing!

You have to pay through Paypal, but you don’t have to have an account and you can pay by card through the Paypal method if you’d rather do that.

All good things. All good things. 馃檪

I hope you like the easy sewing and easy wearing聽Carrie Cardigan.

Happy sewing my friends!

Oh, this is awesome! I’m a larger person, but I’m thinking the xxxl will work. I think I may attempt to make one of these over my Christmas vacation. Thanks for your hard work in getting it completed for us.

Thank you Melissa! Of course! It’s a really quick sew. Really, the paper pattern piecing and cutting probably takes the lion’s share of the time. You could totally get it done in an afternoon!

Dear Delia, thank you for sharing your cardigan sweater project. I have been looking for information on how to transform my many sweaters and thank goodness I found your presentation. I admire your talent and practicality. Also, I think I would like to try and add a zipper to one of them to see how it will come out. From you I got the basic idea on how to proceed. Hope all is well with you and your beautiful children. SR

OK, I LOVE this sweater, but I can’t sew to save my life 馃檨 I have 2 sewing machines, yes, 2, and I can’t get either of them to do what I want. However, I LOVE this – I need this – will you make me one?? Someone?? It is the perfect sweater – and I’d like one for me, my sister and my mom – I’ll even wait until after the holidays 馃槈

Aw thanks Christi! I wish I had time to take on custom orders, but I don’t at this season of my life. What usually happens with some of my patterns is that small businesses will pick it up to fill their shops. I allow people to use my patterns to sell finished items on a small home business based level without having to buy a seller’s pattern or license. If any sellers see these comments and start to sell finished items from this pattern, please reply to Christi! (just putting it out there ;)).

You can also hire someone you know who sews, to make you one. I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer, but I hope that helps. <3

Hi how much fabric is used in the Carrie. I’m thinking of buying your pattern for fabric in my stash and just wondered if I have enough. Thank you

Great question. Here is the sizing and yardage chart: http://www.deliacreates.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Carrie-Cardigan-Information-Sheet.jpg

These allotments are on the generous side for the smaller xxs and xs small, but not by much. If have a four way stretch knit, you may be able to change the direction of the pieces enough to use less fabric. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any further questions and I’ll do my best to help.

Delia: absolutely love the design! I have hit a wall trying to figure out the instructions for the long sleeve pattern. The instruction picture shows that the sleeve is folded in half lengthwise and then the instructions say to stitch the short ends together. However the photo shows the stitching is done on the lengthwise side. That didn’t seem to work! Is the sleeve folded in half lengthwise and then the two short ends and matched for seaming before attaching to the rest of the sweater? Thanks!!

      Hi Keri!

I am not totally sure I understand your question, so I’ll do my best to answer. If it doesn’t help, please email me [email protected]. We might need to send some pictures back and forth or something. For the long sleeve it should look like a geometric hour glass shape. You want to fold it length-wise so that it still has the notch on the side. Sew it together, then fold the sleeve in half by rolling the right side of the sleeve over the wrong side. The sleeve should now have right sides facing out on the top and the inside of the sleeve and it should be two layers. You are now ready to attach it to the sleeve opening using the raw edged end. I hope this helps. Email me if you still want some more clarification. I’m happy to help any way I can! 馃檪

    Hi,
Thanks so much for this pattern! Could I ask for some help on the length of the neckband for the long version please? I don鈥檛 have enough fabric to cut it on the fold as specified so will need to piece it together – ideally in 3 pieces – but am having difficulty deciding on the correct length. The neckband cutting guide specifies 128cm for the medium size but when I measure the medium pattern piece it would work out at 136cm when doubled. Would you be able to tell me the correct total length of the neckband when sewn into a circle please so I can work out with seam allowance?
    Huge thanks

Hi Anna! I am SO sorry for my delayed response. I just saw your comment. (If you ever need a faster response email me – [email protected], or even better, direct message me on instagram – @deliacreates).

I went back into the files and measured them the most accurate way that I can, with Adobe Illustrator, and the size Medium, long length neckband measurements match the neckband cutting guide. So 128 cm is the correct length. Reasons why your actual pattern is measuring longer could be print related?

I hope this isn’t getting to you too late. I am so sorry for not seeing the message sooner.
